With dreadlocks, it's hard to find characters you can do perfectly. So I just do anyone! I also try to do female versions of black characters who could have dreadlocks if they were ladies. Just to be clear here, I'm biracial. So I can do black characters if I want to. I will also be posting a modest amount of non-cosplay fandom-related content.

Back in the game

So I've been taking a step back from cosplay for a while for various personal reasons, but I'm planning to get back into the game with a revamp of my Ace cosplay. The jacket is too big for me (especially since I've lost some weight!), the decal on the back is too large, and I'm still missing a lot of pins. I'm hoping to get a more screen accurate backpack too, instead of the Sierra Club one I stole from my mom that's entirely the wrong color. In other news, the truth is I no longer have dreadlocks. I know this will come as a disappointment to many people, and to be honest I sometimes miss them too. So I may start incorporating wigs into my cosplay. I'm still the Dread Pirate Hackney, though.

Just finished the corset for my Melody Malone cosplay. I have sewn a sweater, a toga, and now this.

The Boston Whovians’ second (sort of) annual Whovian Prom will be held in Melrose, MA this year at the VFW Post #2394 (the number is important because there are actually two VFWs in Melrose), a much bigger location than last year! We will be able to sell up to 200 tickets!

Exactly, it was an act of mercy on the Doctor’s behalf. I suppose it can be considered a form of euthanasia, and doctors perform those. So yes, he’s helping Kamelion.

I know, and I thought it was the right choice, if a hard one. It just seems like the kind of thing people should know about; one of a long line of things the Doctor has to feel guilty and conflicted about. I would have made a much bigger deal of it if I thought the Doctor had murdered a companion.

I've almost mastered craft foam! Here's the prototype of what the neck ports would look like. They're actually going to be more angular and have some rivets and stuff, but this is the general idea.

Cosplay statement of purpose

I'm planning a new cosplay inspired by the Gunslinger in A Town Called Mercy. I'm not cosplaying the Gunslinger, I'm making a costume in what I'm calling CyberSteam Punk. It will have many pieces.

Corset: 

I've changed my mind. This is probably the corset I will buy instead.

Cyborg ports:

These will be make in a mold with Model Magic, which will be hardened with Mod Podge and turned bronze with Rub 'n Buff. The bottom will be left soft so it can conform to my back, then it will be glued to my skin.

Skirt:

I will be using this pattern now, which is free and "incredibly easy":

The skirt will be black, possibly with gold highlights, and the bustle (which is a separate piece) will be as close to the color of the corset as I can find, darker if I can't find anything close enough.

Gauntlet/Arm Piece:

I'm replacing the gauntlet idea with a cyborg gun arm idea, more reminiscent of the Gunslinger. It will be smaller and not completely consume my fingers, but a similar design. It is going to be a bronze color to be more steampunk and match the rest of the outfit.

Head:

My hair will be up in a kind asymmetrical updo, probably with red highlights of some variety. I would love to have a face piece similar to what Matt Smith wore as "Mr. Clever" in Nightmare in Silver. I've also used gold Rub 'n Buff on my extra pair of glasses and am designing a kind of HUD to make into a little decal and put on one of the lenses.

This is probably what the HUD will look like. It will be the size of a glasses lens so it hardly has to be amazing. I've also just thought of the idea of using craft foam to make a little goggle effect, just with that eye.
