I think this is an incredibly poigant thing and let me tell you why:

They were born between 1945-1949, when civil rights weren’t a thing and racism was a different sort of in-your-face. By their high school years, these were the people who felt strongly enough about this to scream about it, like angry counterprotesters at a Pride parade. But what about the people who were still touched and influenced by racist ideologies but didn’t go out and shout in their faces?

Some of them went into politics. Some of them got very good at “the game.” And now they’ve been in office for decades, on both sides of the aisle.

It’s time for younger generations to run for office more.
