I’m Roderick Usher. I was born on October 7th. I always lived in the dark shadows of my mind, so my story was as deep as I could tell. For quite some time, I found myself struggling with my illness, hyperesthesia. I was highly sensitive to touch, sound, and light. This condition always pushed me to the limit of giving up on things I used to do, like writing poetry and riding my horse. I had a twin sister called Madeline. I always thought of her as my counterpart. She was bold, confident, and strong, or maybe she had to be, as she was the only sane person in my family. All I could remember about my mother was that she suffered from a mental illness that deteriorated her mind and body over the years. I feared that I would share her fate. My friendship with Edgar helped me to see things differently during the years we spent together. We had been friends since childhood. He shed some light into my darkest thoughts and made me believe everything was possible.
