Hello~ I downloaded Topaz Labs from HERE. Just scroll down the page and look for “Topaz Classic Plugins.” There are download instructions and minimum requirements there. So you go over to your desired Topaz extension. For example, Topaz Denoise…
Choose which one you’re using whether it is Mac or Windows and the program installer should be downloaded. I’m not sure if you would need keys to unlock them or use them properly, but I’ve found THIS just in case ^^ Let me know if it doesn’t work out for you.

hey i have a question, when making gifset with subtitles, what's an easy way to make sure that when i drag the text to all the gifs it's on the same position? :/

First things first, when making a gifset make sure that the dimensions are the same all throughout. So if you chose to do 268px width x 180px height, the rest of the gifs should also have the same dimensions.
With that said… Let’s say for instance that you have your PSD (colouring) prepared and as well as your subtitles. I advise you to put them all in the same folder (so that they all get transferred in one go):
Then right-click the folder and choose “Duplicate Group…”
A window will pop up that says something like this:
You click on “Document:” and choose the destination of where you want to copy your PSD and subtitle~
And if you go to the document that you want to apply the PSD and subtitle to, you’ll see it there!

i know its like rly HARD to color gifs from 480p videos and make them look really high quality as it can be, how do you color gifs from 480p quality videos? i hope you could share what steps/tricks you could do so i could learn D:
Hi there ^^ I understand that sometimes 1080p or at least 720p are not available for some videos and we’re stuck with 480p videos (or even 360p). I personally try to avoid them altogether no matter how much I want to gif something because I really like my gifs sharp and crisp, but I purposely downloaded 480p videos for this to give an example ;u;

And I know that technically this isn’t what you’re asking from me, but I think that in order to make 480p gifs as “high quality” as they can be, you might have to use the “unsharpen mask” filter. In order to do this, while you are in the video timeline, ready to sharpen your gif, I advise that you “unsharpen” your smart object…
A pop-up window will show up that looks something like this:
Basically how this USM (UnSharpen Mask) tool works is that it controls the contrast between light and dark on the edges of your image. Like so:
(I am really bad at explaining so I’ll show instead ><) Adjusting the radius slider in the dialog would control how much is covered in the contrasting process. A very low radius of 0 would not really show an effect(?) or make your image seem blurred:
A middle-ish radius would produce something like this:
And an outrageous maximum radius would cause it to be really light:
So I advise to use a radius of 0.3~0.5 ideally.
The amount slider is pretty much straightforward. It controls how much of the contrasting you want to do. A very low amount would not show an effect or would make your image look blurred:
A very high amount would result in an over-sharpened image:
That’s why you should tinker about this slider to find how much “sharpened” you want your gif to appear.
The last slider is the threshold and I believe that it has to do with the details and noise of the image(?). So having it at 0 would have a lot of details popping out while having it at maximum would make your image appear blurred or unsharpened.
I urge you to read THIS PAGE to find out more about the USM as they explain it better than I do.
Bottom line is, every video is different so there really isn’t any specific numbers that I could give you for each slider to get the same sharpened effect for each video you want to gif. Always be careful of over-sharpening your gifs because you wouldn’t want your gif to be looking hideous ><
Now, as for your question... Since the quality of 480p is quite low, I think that it is best to desaturate your gifs (lowering the saturation levels using “Hue and Saturation”) or at least avoid making it very colourful (avoiding maxing out the colour sliders) and bright (lowering the brightness level in “Brightness and Contrast”). If worse comes to worst, make your gif black and white.
ORIGINAL (no colour + no sharpen):

Sometimes, the gif would appear to have a lot of noise no matter how much you control the colours so I would advise to add a blur filter on your gif or use Topaz Denoise (on top of sharpening your gif). But essentially, that’s like going back a step, isn’t? D: Wouldn’t that make the gif less sharpened again? Anyway, it’s up to your standards how you want your final gif to look like so I’ll leave you with these available options...
DISCLAIMER: The late 1990s and early 2000 music videos tend to blur out the background (Blur? Vignette? thingy) so I found them quite difficult to gif... The thing is, you might want to sharpen the background as well but in doing so, you could affect the subject and make the subject over-sharpened... (I guess you can edit the mask layer to avoid affecting the subject but that’s just long, isn’t? Especially if the subject is moving LOL)
i love your gifs on the adjusting speed gif tutorial, could you share your topaz clean and denoise settings? ive been trying them out but i could never really see much difference :< also, your save for web settings? i have mine as selective diffusion and it's grainy sometimes so i shift it to adaptive, is that okay? ;; thank u!!
Hi hi~ Thank you very much! And sure~ It’s interesting that you ask me this since I’ve only made that one particular gif with the denoise and clean for demonstration purposes. (I’ll be honest with you, I’m not really one to use denoise or clean unless I find it absolutely necessary). Still, you’re lucky that I’ve saved the settings ^^

I’ve heard many times from others that pattern instead of diffusion is the best dither out there, but I personally have mine on diffusion. My colours are also in adaptive (I honestly can’t tell the difference with selective or perceptual). Have you made sure to have the colours on 256 colours and the dither to 100%? Anyway, you might find THIS useful in selecting the best options for saving your gifs. If everything is still grainy after all of this, it might all be coming down to your colouring or the quality of your video (or the video itself)?
Hello~ I actually use a MacBook in doing my gifs! So any of THESE you could try ^^ Preferably, I use Method 2. If I have longer videos, I cut the videos first on VLC (Method 2a). But if I have fairly short videos, I go straight ahead and use Method 2b.
hello! when i use the sharpen action when making gifs it doesn't work - it immediately says "command is not available" - does my number of frames and layers have to match up with the number in the actions? or is there anyway to start the action if the titles of the layers are different? (like it must start at frame 1 and layer 1 not frame 1 and layer 7)

And yes, it’s absolutely essential that the layers and frames are the same (i.e Frame 1 = Layer 1) because that is how the action was made. I advise you to either:
Get rid of unwanted frames and layers before flattening your frames into layers.
OR you could flatten your frames into layers again after deleting unwanted frames but also deleting the previous Frame 1, Frame 2… etc. from the layers window.
Hopefully this short video would be able to help you in case I’m not making any sense…
yeah, i "flattened frames into clips" before back to "frame animation". i tried it again with a different video clip and i got the same pop-up. but when i clicked ok this time, it just showed me one frame with the time delay as 2.07. i'm using photoshop cc btw

hi, i was just trying out your tutorial for adjusting the speed of gifs. when i do convert frames > convert to frame animation / clicking the button with the 3 squares, i get a pop up that says animated objects will not play back and timeline keyframes will be emulated. i click continue and it only shows me 2 frames? the first one is 0.3 which is what gifs usually are when you import them and the second says 1.37? idk what happened to the rest of the frames? i hope you can help me!

I’m not sure what exactly went wrong for you? So you sharpened your gif as normal… Did you “Flatten Frames Into Clips” before you went back to “Frame Animation”? I have not gotten that pop up before 😔😔
Actually, are you using CS5? Someone who reblogged my post added a tag that it did not work out for them in CS5…
