You’re sprawled out on the couch of Sukuna’s high rise penthouse, a random cheesy rom com full blast on the tv. No, he hadn’t just rearranged your guts and turned your mind to mush by fucking you like all the other girls who’s been in and out of his apartment, instead he was making you breakfast.
Believe it or not but you two are friends, as unlikely as it was. You two clicked after being paired up for an assignment together and you found out he was much nerdier than he let on. Ever since then you two had been conjoined at the hip.
You’d follow him around like a lost puppy, not for love or sex, but maybe his attention, and he’d indulge at the very least. He’d listen attentively as you rambled on about the stupidest of things, let you hang out at his place, and let you in his bed without even trying to have sex with you.
You didn’t realize how attached to him you were because it was unintentional, but he did. He noticed but he’d never turn you away.
You fling yourself over the arm of his couch, curls falling in your face, and let out a dramatic sigh.
“It must be me.”
You mumble the words loud enough for him to hear, loud enough to get his attention.
When you noticed your words caught his attention you began to spill your little heart out without any pressure on his part.
“It must me right? It can’t be. How have not had a boyfriend or anything yet?”
He rolled his eyes, he’s annoyed but not entirely at you. It seemed like those corny romances movies had put in a mood he’d have to deal with. As always.
He didn’t even respond but you continued anyway.
“I’m in college for christs sake! Half the girls my age are out having sex with guys they don’t even know the names of and I’m just here… no boyfriend, no “situationship”, no roster, no nothing. I’ve never even held hands romantically before!”
You said it like it was the most absurd thing in the world, because it was. Your romantic life had been completely barren up to this point; your whole life you’ve had two crushes, both of which in middle school and both of who rejected you.
It was honestly embarrassing especially being friends with Sukuna, the guy known around your campus for “getting around”.
You turn to him as he’s stood shirtless over the stove making you pancakes, muscles rippling under his thick and tattooed skin.
“Is it because I’m ugly? Is that it?”
You sink further into the couch, staring dreamily at the couple on the tv sharing a romantic kiss. A feeling of yearning washes over you, one you can’t ignore.
“Am I that ugly that I can’t even find a guy desperate enough to be with me? Surely not right?”
You look over to your shoulder to look him in the eyes; he’s plating your food—bite sized pancakes with butter and a side of bacon and eggs, just how you like it— with an even deeper scowl than usual.
“You’re complaining about nothing.” He said definitively, almost scolding you.
You pout a little, not on purpose but it happened anyways.
“I’m being serious. You just wouldn’t understand because you’re hot.” You sigh again as he strides over to you and hands you the plate of food before sitting beside you and propping your feet up on his lap. He’s massaging your feet without even asking just because he knew you’d like it.
“You don’t understand how horrible it feels to feel…” you think for a second, trying to put your thoughts into words as you chew on one of the tiny pancakes “… to feel unwanted.”
You go quiet for a moment to chew your food before speaking again.
“You should set me up with one of your frat guys!!” It was the perfect solution, to you at least. “Toji’s pretty cute, right? And I hear he’s single… kind of.”
“Absolutely not. I’m not letting that pervert near you.”
He’s scoffing at the absurdity of that idea. Toji even more of whore than he was, if that was even possible.
“Why not? He’s cute, he’s kind of respectful and he’s your friend. Seems perfect to me.”
“He’s a slut and he doesn’t deserve someone like you.”
Someone like you? What did he even mean by that? If the guy who fucks just about anything walking wouldn’t even go for you then who would? The thought saddened you more than you’d expect.
As you eat you stare back at the tv, the two lovers looking each other’s eyes as they confess their undying love for each other. You knew it was fake, it was some random bad low budget rom come for christs sake, but still you craved it.
You craved being looked at like that, being talked to like that, being understood like that.
Family and friends could only give so much and you needed… more. Growing up as the ‘gross weird girl’ affected you in ways you couldn’t even measure. You were an attention whore and you hated accepting that.
Never developing crushes because you knew it’d never work out, being painted as a creep just for liking someone like the other kids did and the dreaded “My friend likes you” while a group of teenage boys laugh in your face as if being attracted to you was a huge joke.
You look over at him with adorably big eyes, on the verge of tears as you somehow always were.
“Am I really ugly?” You ask earnestly, hoping for honesty but you’re met with cold hard silence.
That was enough of a confirmation for you. God, you really were that unattractive?
You always felt like you were and you always knew you we “nothing special” but this felt like a different level. A point of no return. To you this practically meant you were going to die alone; a dramatic way of thinking but you really couldn’t help it.
It was an idea you had already figured was going to be the case but you had no choice but to face it now. Tears were rolling down your chubby cheeks before you could stop it, before you could hide your shame and sadness.
“You can’t be serious.” He rolled his eyes and scoffed, but there was no real malice behind his words. You felt as if his gaze softened ever so slightly as he watched you covering your tears, hoping you could just go invisible.
“I am serious!” You sniffle, still wiping tears away to no avail. “You don’t understand but you don’t don’t have to worry about stuff like that!”
Your tone was much more snappier than you mean for it to be, before you knew it you were full on crying. You’d finally accepted that wiping away your tears was doing nothing for your sadness.
“I’m going to die alone. Alone!”
You’re letting out feelings you never even knew you had bottled up, all of it spilling out in front of one of the only friends you have. How embarrassing.
No one really understood you, and you’d learn to accept it. No one could understand why you go from your usual annoyingly bubbly self to your equally as annoying gloomy self, but he did. More than you realized.
A part of you wanted him to comfort you, a part of you didn’t. A part of you wanted to sink into the cushions of this comfy couch and disappear completely and the other wanted to scream. Too many emotions, too many thoughts, too much things to feed into your never ending tears for you to calm down as much as you wanted to.
Before you could do anything, scream, cry harder or throw yourself on the floor Sukuna’s pulling yourself into his bare chest.
Your heart beat slows, your foggy mind clears and your tears go dry before starting again, softer this time.
For a second he didn’t say anything, just let you cry and slobber all over his meaty pecs.
“You’re stupider than I thought.” He finally breaks the silence, before you could cry even harder at his teasing he’s squeezing you with his muscular arms and burying you back into his chest.
“Seriously how much more obvious do I have to be?”
You’re confused, what’s he en talking about. You look up at him, tears still streaming, hiccuping , still slobbering all over him.
“W-what?” You manage to choke out.
“You’re complaining about not being liked. Have you ever paid attention to anything I do for you?”
Before you say do anything he’s listing things off.
“I cook for you, let you cuddle up in my bed all day, massage your feet, wipe your tears, listen to you yap on and on about anything and everything for hours and hours.”
He sounds annoyed but he isn’t actually, far from it. In his eyes he has the cutest girl wrapped around him and he couldn’t want for more.
“I was as desperate and as obvious as I could be.” He shakes you a little, not rough, never rough, just enough to wake you up a little.
“I like you, I have since we’ve met.“
He’s looking down at, stern as always but even more honest now. He’s serious, dead serious but you can’t even process it properly.
Is he joking? Am I dreaming? He can’t be serious? Is this a prank?! Isn’t there like a million girls in front of me?? WHAT?
A million thoughts are in your head running at two million miles a minute.
“But…” you start “Why?” It’s all you can manage.
“Why?” He barely even thinks, he doesn’t need to. “You’re sweet and smart. And as annoying as your obliviousness is a find it adorable.”
Adorable??
“You can’t like me?! Don’t you like Yoruzu??”
You scramble to make sense of it, it’s making your head hurt. Or maybe that’s from your crying.
Yoruzu was what you thought Sukuna’s type was. She was tall and slim and really pretty. She would be all over him, shamelessly too.
“I don’t like her, we hooked up once in freshman year and she hasn’t let it go.”
That’s it, the explanation! He must be trying to hook up with you or something.
“Ahh so you’re trying to find someone to fill her spot? I’m not falling for this.” You slap his arm weakly, trying to free yourself from his choking hug, but to no avail.
“No. I’m being serious. I like you, like like like you. In a romantic way.”
The confusion on your face is both endearing him and annoying him.
“Why else would I be half naked making you breakfast?”
“Because… that’s what ….friends do?” Even you didn’t believe your explanation.
“Alright then, and all those times I let you cuddle with me to fall asleep?”
“That’s not weird! I like feeling someone close to me.”
“I walk you to all your classes.”
“I get lost… sometimes.”
“I’ve stopped seeing all other girls entirely.”
“I thought you were just turning over a new leaf or something??”
He sighs, actually annoyed this time. Your stubbornness, while cute was starting to piss him off.
“I thought you were-… doing all of those things to be nice I didn’t think you liked me.” The words felt wrong on your tongue.
“Is this a joke?”
“No.” His answer is simple and definitive, leaving no room for question but you always found a way. Somehow.
“Was this a dare?”
“No.”
“Are you doing this because you pity me? I swear I’ll-“
“No.”
You sigh, resting your head on his chest. You look up at him again, your heart wanting so badly to believe him but your mind telling you this was some kind of joke… like it always has been.
It’s hard to believe a guy like Sukuna would be into you of all people. He’s hot, he’s rich and basically everything you’re not.
“Tell me you like me and be honest.”
He clears his throat. “I like you a lot.”
“What do you like about me?”
He scoffs in disbelief. “Everything.”
Your head plops into his chest again as you try to wriggle away from him, but it’s no use he has you completely pressed against him. You look up at him again, a little pathetically.
“Does… does that mean you think I’m pretty?”
Maybe this came off more shameless that you expected but it’s too late for that now, you just need some validation. Desperately too.
“I think you’re adorable, yeah.”
Your face quirked up into multiple expressions—disbelief, confusion, acceptance— before ultimately deciding not to reply at all.
He knows you inside and out, he knows there’s a million thoughts running through your pretty little head. He looked down at you and offered you a comforting squeeze, much more affection than any of the other girls he’s been with before.
“Well um… I like you too.”
You said it in his chest, more timidly than you expected. You hadn’t had a crush on him per se but you’ve always found him attractive, really really attractive.
You’d never had a crush on him because a part of your brain had ruled out the thought of a relationship with him without you even noticing to protect yourself.
He laughs a little, mostly because this read like two middle schoolers confessing or the end of an cheesier rom com than the one that was currently playing on the tv, not two college students asking each other out.
Especially not Sukuna asking someone else out. The other times he’s done this wasn’t half as wholesome, all it took was a few half smiles, some wandering glances and a few shots before the woman he’d be talking to was giggling her way into being naked in his bed.
But this was different, and it made his heart miss a few beats in a way he wouldn’t dare admit to a soul.
“Does this mean we’re together now?” You ask, genuinely curious. The silence between you had grown even more awkward yet even more comforting, he was giving you enough time to process everything and think about it. Overthink it actually.
“If you want to- then we can be together.”
His breath hitched ever so slightly, just enough for you to miss it. It’s embarrassing enough he’s confessing his crush to you like some kid, it’s even worse when he realizes he’s genuinely afraid you might reject him.
He’d never ever admit it, especially not to you but he cares about you, like a lot. It’s the reason why he turns his back on all those girls because he knew it wasn’t something you liked and he knew you’d stare a little longer when he was shirtless so he’s almost exclusively half naked.
The silence grows deeper, but in a comforting way. You’d had all your questions answered and had been validated enough to the point your brain was finally telling you relax.
“Alright then, boyfriend.”
You said it with a little giggle and a scrunch of the nose, he thought it was cute.
He doesn’t respond, not verbally at least. Before you know it he’s leaning down and you’re reaching up at him before you two finally share a delicate kiss.
For a second it felt like you were out of your own body, your own mind but it felt so good. You pulled away, faster than you wanted to but he caught your lips again. No longer a peck on the lips, far deeper and intimate.
His tongue slowly makes way into your mouth, graduating this from a kiss to full on making out.
Moments later you’re both pulling away, satisfied. You allow yourself to rest on his shoulder, feeling the warmth of his embrace and letting your mind go blank.
This had been a long time dream of yours, to share an intimate kiss after confessing your love to someone you knew genuinely understood you. It felt a little surreal.
You find yourself drifting off in his warm and comforting embrace.
