There is a definite connection between Rain and Our Troubles.

Especially with the new knowledge that there are sister songs, I think that these pair logically with the theme of rain and what the speaker means when she says "I like the rain when there's two under one umbrella"

And this is further strengthened by the lines "Every black cloud needs to cry" and "I like the rain when there's two under one umbrella" which connects this symbol of rain for sadness and depression/melancholy, and the theme in Rain that sorrow is best shared.

They mirror each other. Rain is sorrow shared, Our Troubles is sorrow apart.
