When trying to figure out which celebrities are actually non binary it’s hard to tell which of them just like to challenge gender norms and which of them are genuinely non binary and which of them preferred to leave it vague because the media can’t tell the difference apparently.

Like okay. Sam Smith, Ruby Rose, and Miley Cyrus have been pretty clear about being non binary. Cool. Fine. But Jaden Smith is a guy that happens to like wearing dresses sometimes and the media takes that as being non binary. Then a non binary activist like Jeffery Marsh is interviewed and during the interview says their preferred pronouns and still gets misgendered during that same interview.

So to be clear, use what people say about themselves when you are reporting about their gender. Not what you observe about them. Especially if those people are still living.
