ngl something that bothers me is that i see a lot of transmeds making blanket statements and not elaborating on their points. posts like “tucutes are making the trans community look like a joke” aren’t useful. they’re easy to dismiss. we need to start explaining how tucute ideology is damaging.
we need to talk about how they’re endangering mentally ill people and impressionable youth by advocating for transition to be available to anyone regardless of that person’s reasons for seeking it ( such as the person seeking transition as a bandaid solution/bad coping mechanism to dissociate from their body because sexual trauma made them dysphoric, rather than providing them with therapy that will actually confront their sexual trauma ) and how they don’t recommend exploring the nature of a person’s dysphoria and where it stems from.
we need to talk about how they’re parroting conversion therapy rhetoric by claiming people are attracted to gender ( something imperceptible and socially constructed that acts as little more than a social honorific or a personality statement ) rather than biological sex. we need to talk about how they’re harassing gay people and calling them genital fetishists and condemning homosexuality while positing bisexuality as the only acceptable sexual orientation. and in order to do this, we have to dismantle the argument that biological sex is a social construct ( because while the labels and categories we created may be socially constructed, the physical traits themselves are not because they can be directly observed and measured, which social constructs can not be; it does not matter whether you call a penis ‘male’ or ‘female,’ it doesn’t change the fact that it is fundamentally different from a vagina ). we also need to dismantle the argument that biological sex is a spectrum ( if biological sex was a normal and healthy spectrum, the middle of the spectrum wouldn’t have increasingly dangerous health problems that impede the person’s quality of life and causes higher rates of infertility/sterility ).
we need to talk about tucutes’ grotesque lack of knowledge about intersex disorders and how they repeatedly use intersex people as pawns in their arguments. if transmeds want to make progress and engage in meaningful discourse, they should familiarize themselves with intersex disorders so that they can dispel myths ( such as intersex people being born with both sets of genitalia ). we should talk about how intersex individuals can still be male or female and not some non-existent third sex, what effect each intersex disorder actually has on the body, how certain intersex disorders negatively impact a person’s health and fertility, etc. talk about how ovo-testes is the rarest intersex disorder and the only disorder in which someone is born with male and female gonadal tissue and how there has never been a case in which both gonadal tissue functioned. talk about how people can die from congenital adrenal hyperplasia if they go into adrenal crisis and must be prescribed corticosteroids for the rest of their life. talk about how certain intersex disorders only affect females while others only affect males and some affect both but in obviously different ways due to sexual dimorphism.
we need to talk about how they’re trying to delegitimize dysphoric trans people by claiming our sex dysphoria is a product of cissexist conditioning ( with no scientific evidence to back this statement up ), which implies sex dysphoria can be unlearned and that until this is accomplished, dysphoric trans people are not as woke™ and progressive™ as tucutes and are classified as self-hating bigots. talk about how that perspective, without a doubt, suggests transition itself is a product of internalized transphobia. lmao can we just appreciate how much of a mind expansion meme that is? talk about how treating transition like a viable coping mechanism for internalized transphobia is harmful not only because it’s transphobic bullshit, but because it advocates for drastically altering your body as a bandaid solution to cope with internalized issues rather than addressing them directly and how this can be applied to any other internalized issue. it’s like saying it’s okay for a lesbian with internalized homophobia to transition to dissociate from being a lesbian rather than meaningfully confront their internalized homophobia. it’s like saying it’s okay for a sexual trauma victim to transition to dissociate from their body rather than meaningfully confront their trauma.
we need to talk about how third genders from other cultures were used as a way to other and often ostracize gender non-conforming people, intersex people, homosexual people, transsexual people, disabled people, infertile people, and eunuchs. how these third roles were used to strip people of their male or female title for being different. and how supporting these third genders is supporting homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and intersexism. talk about how it’s been sociologically demonstrated that third genders almost exclusively manifest in cultures where sex-role segregation is most prevalent and harshly policed.
we need to talk about why ‘male’ and ‘female’ are not feelings, but are instead sex classifications. talk about how it is impossible to feel like the male sex, for example, when the male sex isn’t a feeling to begin with and there is no universal feeling about being the male sex that is shared between all males which defines them all as males and even if there was, there would be no way to determine that they all share this same feeling since we cannot read each other’s minds. talk about how wanting to be the male sex is not the same as feeling like the male sex. talk about how it is impossible to feel like the male gender because the male gender is socially constructed and it is impossible to feel like a social construct because, like biological sex, a social construct is also not a feeling but describes a concept that exists only in a human social context ( like marriage, currency, and the government ). talk about how it’s contradictory to posit gender as both a feeling and a social construct at the same time.
we need to talk about how although gender is a social construct, that doesn’t mean people should be inventing more genders because this does nothing to combat the issue and only perpetuates the oppressive structure. the existence of nonbinary genders relies on the existence of binary genders. the existence of ‘agender’ relies on the existence of gender. claiming to be another gender because you don’t fit the female gender role does nothing but enforce the female gender role.
