The Vatican Dome

This is a representation of my mother currently as well as a representation of all mothers and the power they hold. Mothers are fruitful, hence her head being made out of a tangerine. Her hair is made out of a bath sponge, signifying their art of cleanliness. Her mega phone-like mouth makes clear that mothers make the calls. We all grew up with our mothers making us brush our teeth, and this is represented through her aiding hand or arm. Her scepter (the spoon) is her most "powerful" tool, well according to society, and with this she is able to cook and feed her children. The detergent is in place as her breast, and the bowl is representative of my mother's pregnancy. It can also be representative of all women who can be with child. The bowl and different soap products signify a chore that all mothers teach their children at a young age.

Dreamyard students and staff went to the Tarot Gardens in Italy. Students observed the mosaic park and each student was assigned a sculpture to focus on and create a watercolor art piece inspired their sculpture.

Today the group visited the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. The “mission” was that students went around the museum observing all of his art. Students were using the art piece Las Meninas, which inspired Picasso to do his version of the painting. Students were given the assignment to sketch their own version of Las Meninas showing what they see in the reflection where the king and queen stand.

Day One Interview

What did you like the most about our first day?

David: Although we were tired, we still managed to stay on schedule and visit all the planned locations. I also enjoyed the subway ride because I expected it to be very nice but was greeted with a graffiti covered cart.

Tell me something you were curious about.

David: I was wondering what kind of art we would be experimenting with on that day.

Is there anything that you've walked away with from the experience?

David: Communication makes strong bonds. Some languages are similar enough to communicate functionally and that makes getting to know people much easier.

What were you looking forward to?

David: I was really looking forward to visiting the Pantheon because I wanted to be a part of a structure that has been up for hundreds of years.
