Character Analysis: Scaramouche’s Transient Dream

It turns out that I am still thinking about puppets and artificial life in Genshin, so it is time to do an ambitious but hopefully insightful character analysis of Scaramouche with some meaningful inclusions of the Raiden Shogun and Ei where appropriate. Scaramouche is a character with layers of complexity that require careful consideration to properly tease apart, and I don’t pretend this is something I’ll do successfully at every opportunity, but here is an attempt nonetheless.

We Have the Raiden Gokaden Downfall All Wrong, Part 2

I was gonna write about Xamaran, but then Kazuha pulled up in the Mystery Machine and told me it was Raiden Gokaden lore time again. Let’s talk about what happened in that story quest, specifically as it relates to the Raiden Gokaden and Scaramouche.

SPOILERS: Acer Palmatum Chapter, Act I: A Strange and Friendless Road (he’s just like me fr), the new Cursed Blade lore, the new Fatui reveal teaser (A Winter Night’s Lazzo), a little bit of the Summer Islands event, Raiden’s Story Quest Part 2, the Irodori Festival event quest, all the Raiden Gokaden lore in existence, and all the Scaramouche lore in existence. [Patch 2.6 Analysis] On Kuronushi, Kunikuzushi, and the Lessons of Irodori

So, I had a LOT of thoughts about the absolute monster of a lore drop we just got with regards to Scaramouche, Kazuha’s family, and the cycle of history. This post will be a mix of analysis of the Irodori Festival story and a theory about the implications of its conclusion.

SPOILERS: The entire Irodori Festival, Raiden’s second story quest, Ayato’s story quest [minor], The Very Special Fortune Slip, and essentially all Scaramouche lore currently in existence.

Visions: Pyro

Second post of the series where I theorize on why people receive a specific vision.

First part: Cryo and Hydro part three: Geo Part four: Anemo

Pyro and Geo lineups look deceptively coherent until you get to a couple of exceptions that break the rule completely. I was going to describe both in one post and compare, but the pyro section became too long, so I’m splitting them. But I still wanted to mention that on the first glance, doesn’t it make sense for Diluc and Itto to swap elements? Diluc is serious, hard-working and diligent, like most of Geo, Itto is a fun ray of sunshine like pretty much every pyro except Diluc.

They already have their burst do the element infusion. We just change Diluc’s skill to creating a cute geo construct bird, and Itto’s to sending a giant flaming Ushi over the battlefield. Peak character design, if you ask me.

Anyway, you go through Pyro users and think “yeah, this makes sense, these are all fun-loving, optimistic people who try to enjoy life to the fullest and never let the circumstances bring them down”… until you get to…
