Secrets & Lies ||Teagan & Drew
When they were smaller Drew and Teagan had been so close, it was the whole united against Darcy thing. For she was easily distracted by her own selfishness and desires, completely ignoring her children forcing Teagan into the role of mother for them both, something Drew hated. As much as she did or tried to do for her sister a gulf grew between them and Teagan had no idea how to mend it. Years later she would lean toward the idea that Crispin had been the cause of that gulf but when she tried to rid him of their lives she was met with his swift justice, something she was sure Drew knew nothing about. Teagan wasnât sure her mother didnât know, but she assumed she didnât because Darcy was prone more to jealousy than parenting and would interpret Crispinâs actions as cheating on her rather than hurting her daughter. From that âlesson,â as he called it, on Teagan had avoided him as much as possible, anxiously watching as her sister seemed to watch him more. She could see there was something building between them and it sickened her that this man was manipulating her sister, much the same, if not worse than he did to her mother.
Knowing that Darcy left the air around them stale and filled with her own insecurities Teagan was worried about speaking to her sister, but she would hate herself more if she sat back and said nothing. It was the push to finally bring up everything she had been avoiding, and since tomorrow was the day and she had to work it was a now or never move. Nothing like waiting until the last minute she had scolded herself. Starting the conversation late she could see Drew was already done speaking to her and wanted her gone already. It hurt her to once again feel that loss of her sister, but she had no idea how to get it back. Watching her pull a dress on she knew who she was seeking approval from and it made her purse her lips. âYouâre party will be fun,â she said absently, still focused on Drewâs attention for Crispin. Shaking her head free she dove in and brought him up, hoping it wasnât one of those situations where you speak a name and it bring the person there of course she thought that was only with monsters and demons, than again Crispin Porter fit that to a tee.
Immediately she could see the shift in Drew and she kept going afraid she would lose the nerve or train of thought. Getting out the words, which felt like rocks in her throat, she frowned as Drew immediately defended him. âAnd mom has the best taste, she wouldnât know or care about dangerous if it paid her two seconds of attention.â Shaking her head, this was not going the way she wanted. âDrew it has nothing to do with me getting attention, this is about Crispin.â Her eyes widened and she felt her stomach drop, biting her lip to keep her composure she rubbed the bridge of her nose. âDrew, please understand he is not the man you think he is.â Frowning about the tantrum part she bit her lip not wanting to distract the conversation they were having with fighting about that. âHe is âŠâ She wanted to say evil incarnate but didnât, âheâs bad news.â
That morning when sheâd awakened, Drew knew there was one person who could dampen her mood. Teagan. Her sister was the only one who could make things bad for the events of the following day but only because Drew actually cared about her sister. It was hard to love her mother in the sense that a child usually does. Drew was obsessed with the man her mother had been fucking most of her life and that was something she hated. There was a twinge of jealousy that Darcy got Crispin in all the ways Drew could only fantasize about and yet Teagan couldnât see how perfect the older man was for her sister. The two girls could have conversations about anything and laugh, enjoying each otherâs company, but Crispin Porter had a way of slicing right through all that.
Drew had to wonder if the reason her sister was such a bitch about him was because she wanted him too. This made her blood boils a little. All those whispers in her ears, all those presents and gentle nudges to save herself? There was no way Drew could handle the idea of Crispin being with Teagan. Her sister was too upright, too pure and even though Drew had never been with a man that was simply because she was saving herself for him. Now, like usual, Teagan was here to dampen the mood and try to sway her. âI hear what you are saying Teagan, but I donât think you really know what youâre talking about. Mom has spectacular taste. Crispin is a great guy.â
She rose from the bed and fluttered back to the mirror to admire how she looked in the dress. He was going to love it. âHonestly, I donât get why you dislike him so much.â The idea of Teagan admitting her feelings for Crispin was overwhelming but at the same time Drew wanted to know. She did not want to run the risk of her birthday party being ruined by her sister professing her unwavering love to the man sheâd been pining over her entire life. âAre you just a bit jelly sis? I mean, I would understand. Crispin is handsome,â her voice dropped to a husky whisper as she bobbed on her heels at the thought. âVery handsome.â Drew closed her eyes and refocused. In a sense it did not matter if her sister knew what she thought she was getting for her birthday but Crispin didnât want anyone knowing either which made sense given she still had one more day before she was legal. âCome on,â she nudged, âWhat are you wearing to my party? Enough about boys.â
