“Yeah, alright, if you say so.”

“What are you trying to say, Ives?”

“Thanks,” he replied. “But I’m okay.”

Drew laughed again. “I definitely know that difference. I’m saying the difference between being able to call her my girlfriend and not even though we’re not fucking anyone else.”

“You sure about that?”

He paused. “Yeah. Why?”

“Yeah, it’s not... official or anything.. exclusive it was she says. I can’t say I know the difference,” he laughed.

Drew nodded again. “Yeah but it probably would have been a shit show.”

“Why did you invite her?”

“Because I’m seeing her,” he shrugged.

“Thanks,” he replied. “But I’m okay.”

“I don’t blame Alice for turning it down either.”

Jonny looked confused. “Alice? Fincher?”

“Yeah, Alice Fincher,” he nodded.

“Then you’re subjecting yourself to your misery.”

“When you’re part of the Fischer clan it just seems to follow you.”

“Probably a good answer,” he laughed.

“You could always rebel. Not go.”

“I would never hear the end of it. It’s better to go, eat, and leave.”

“We’ve never really been a family that makes a deal of the holidays,” he replied. “And I’d rather hang out around here than head up to Brunswick to spend an evening with my parents.”

“So are you spending it with anyone or just hanging out alone?”

He shrugged. “I’ll probably hang out alone.”

“If you wanted I’m sure there would be a spot open at our table,” he offered. “Might tone down the family drama if they have someone to impress.”

“We’ve never really been a family that makes a deal of the holidays,” he replied. “And I’d rather hang out around here than head up to Brunswick to spend an evening with my parents.”

“So are you spending it with anyone or just hanging out alone?”

“And I don’t think he wants to figure out what he wants to do. It’ll probably be a subject at Thanksgiving,” he shrugged.

“Enjoy that conversation.”

“Thanksgiving is going to be something,” he sighed and shook his head, but still with a half smile.

“Not for me,” he replied. “I’m not doing anything.”

“Really? Why?” he asked curiously. As close as his family wasn’t, they still made a show of getting together.
