I totally agree with you on the power social media brings to society and it is very influential. The way these new school artists are rapping lyrically compared to the old school might be different but the message is still there. You can make the argument that they rap and do what they do because its just what the people want to hear. To excel you always have to make improvements and that’s exactly what happened with Hip Hop in our day in age. Shoutout to 21 Savage because what he's doing is exactly what we youth and generation really need. Money management and Financial literacy is something that isn't really heavily forced, so when the youth see their favorite artist practice these ways they follow.

Here is the new improved Meek Mill. Shouts out to him. He is one of the victims of the prejudice against black people as a judge made him do months in jail without no bail, while we saw other cases with white people killing people getting bail. the injustice is present and Meek Mill is now speaking out about it. He wants be remembered as a person that can speak for all people of color who goes through what he has gone through.

Throughout our history Hip Hop has played a prevalent role in expressing the social problems black people face through art, fiction, poetry, paintings, performance, music etc. Many people don’t see the significance of how important art plays in conversation with social and cultural problems. Art helps communicate these types of ideals through vivid imagery and its beneficial because art is widely viewed and recognized in our society. The way artist create their imagery plays service to creating a certain input to the society. In terms of social hierarchies in popular culture artist made sure to innovate different techniques and mediums to show the audience of what’s prevalent.

The Harlem Renaissance was a period of time where African Americans expressed their twist on music, culture, film, and literature, but also showed its views on homophobia. “The typology to which the film is devoted also enables another critique of the identity politics we have inherited from the black nationalisms of our youth, a critique that focuses on a maligned sexual politics”. What this means is that the type of classification they had towards homosexuals was a problem. These black nationalist have created this notion that being a homosexual was wrong and it traveled to modern day society. Being apart of the black community I have experience this. If anything sounded or looked homophobic in any type of way there was an immediate need to diminish that. It created this type of culture that only black people responded to and although we created beautiful music, film, etc we also created disparity within our own community.

When we think about Black culture we think of stuff that Black people do throughout history, we don’t look at how it is consisted of more than one. Hall said, “Black cultural representation…. has no pure forms at all. All these forms are a product of partial synchronization, engagement across cultural boundaries of more than one traditions”(Hall,28) Meaning that Black culture was mixture of cultures that created the traditions we black people know today.

Chadwick Boseman in his Met Gala outfit looks like a character that was torn right out of some insane religion inspired anime like Trinity Blood, Chrono Crusade or Vatican Miracle Examiner and I need it right now. I’d throw Michael B Jordan in as the sexy demon that seduces him, cause why the hell not.

The Black panther movie was the first all Black cast filmed movie and on top of that it broke so many records in the film industry. This movie attracted not only marvel fans but the whole black community. It gave a lot of recognition to the black community, because we never seen an all black movie. The phrase “Wakanda Forever” along with the hand movements has Brought everyone together and created a trend. hopefully stays like that.

Recently Childish Gambino dropped his new single along with a new video about America. When we look at hip hop today the argument is about the message rappers are supposed to give along with the quality lyrics. Childish Gambino doesn't exhibit lyrical message but shows a visual one. He incorporates African culture, police depiction of lack people, and etc. He gets praise because he's a unique artist that follows his heart and expresses his work vividly.

PREACH! Black Culture was the basis behind a lot of things. When it came to most of the arts a lot of stuff has been adopted from African roots. Also, the number genre today is Hip Hop and that was also originated by Black people. So, you can make the argument that black people created style and flavor.

The Boondocks - The Trial of R. Kelly (01X02)

This was the best scene from The Boondocks. 

Huey was speaking true facts.

Flashback to class when we were on the topic of The Boondocks. This was actually used by one of the groups to explain how Huey slammed the audience for the way they were reacting towards R.Kellys trial. Huey got mad because R.Kellys defense attorney but on his music as a his defense in the case and everybody was jamming to it including the judge. The group that presented this topic explained how the boondocks used this type of Black Satire

Throughout this course not only have I became more educated African pop culture but way more aware about the type of stuff thats happening in our society currently. When we came to the topic of Boondocks and everything that went along with it, I never thought that black satire was its original meaning. To be honest I didn't know what black satire was. I just watched the boondocks for the humor but to learn the message it was sending gave me a greater feeling. Although the Boondocks contains vulgar language and racist examples, its exactly what goes on in our society today whether we like it or not. I hope the producers of the show come back out with a remastered version or continuation, because it would be enjoyable and used to help the injustice we live in currently.

Kanye West has been a Hip Hop musical Icon for many people in our society. Along with all his hits and albums he's dropped he's never been afraid to voice his opinion about whats been going on in our society. This is a response interview video by meek mill on The Breakfast Club responding to what Kanye said on TMZ. Kanye said,” 400 years of slavery, that seems to like it was a choice”. Slavery was never a choice, it was something that was forced upon. No one wanted to be a slave. Meek Mill responds to this and is explaining that if Kanye wants to spread a type of awareness he needs to communicate it a different way, because what he's doing right now is offensive to a lot of people.

Hip Hop has strayed away from its actual meaning and our generation has just settled for the quality of the beat instead of the quality of the lyrics but artists like Kendrick Lamar still keeps that flame alive to why Hip hop was created. With this new video he just dropped it shows a true representation of Black African Culture and Black excellence. This type of recognition from a celebrity of this magnitude is exactly what we really need right now in our society and more people need to follow in his footsteps.
