Alright this is fashionably late and literally on the last day before we lose contact with you for a while but that’s more on me and my atrocious time management skills. But yeah time to analysis the side story.
A lot of Fangans are doing this now, to have more of a story then the stuff occurring in the Killing Game, and here we see the missing Class 56 student Toga who somehow avoided being kidnapped and now she’s trying to get forces together to save Aliza and the others. As for how she avoided being kidnapped, I suspect she was in a Council meeting and missed the sleepover the class was having which is when they got snatched.
Now of course since we Anons are moles for the Mastermind, all of Toga’s attempts to investigate and thwart the Mastermind will be met with failure, and speaking of Miss Mastermind I have a feeling she’s basically like DTFA Junko, something happened to her in the past, probably involving the school which hurt her badly and she wants revenge, but like Junko she’s lashing out at the wrong people since Aliza and co have nothing to do with her pain, their only crime is being associated with the school. The Mastermind is convinced that after a while the world will forget Aliza and friends exist, something I’m sure is based on Mod’s own thoughts she will be forgetten eventually and never be a thought in people’s brains.
As for Toga’s allies as you can imagine they are the usual brand of being extremely OP but not really because with the villains also being OP to quote a certain Pixar villain; when everyone is OP, nobody is. We have the trio of Piper, Sora and Fushi who seem like cool people, and we also get expansion on Aliza’s family in DrForgiven. Those who know Aliza from the Voidship would think everyone in Aliza’s family sucks but here we see the bad apple is just Aliza’s uncle Carlos but her mother and younger sister are decent people. Pina is what’s known as a Past Seer; while Aliza can see into the Future, Pina can see into the past. Interesting, we have a lot of foreseers in fiction but most don’t tackle the past. This done on the teacher of Class 56 to see if any information can be found but this doesn’t work as some Corruption Apperation shows up and messes the whole vision up.
There's also Arthesia and Mira, the former is another person with powers like Aliza and Togo but her powers are literally saying no to reality, which seems OP but again, if she could bring Aliza and friends back, then we wouldn't have a story so clearly she has limits to her abilities or the Masterminds are just that strong. Mira giving she's known as the Ultimate Warrior, she's probably a HPA student but not in Class 74, maybe Class 73? Being colourblind doesn't really affect fighting since all it does is mess with the cones in your eyes but you can still see, and you don't need to have colour to know how to beat someone up.
I’ve seen people comparing Corruption to Void Juice a LOT, not helped by the fact they are “Convigent Ideas” as I dub them, since its just a coincidence me and the Mod came up with the same idea. What I can say is that Corruption is tied to Blackia, who for those who don’t know, is the Big Bad of Finalverse, or would have been until it got cancelled. Now obviously she’s not the big bad villain here, Little miss Mastermind is that, but I do imagine she’s involved and being a major antagonist. Especially as an agent of her’s does attack Toga’s group and kidnaps one of their allies, Ei a Soul Demon.
Since with Toga having demonic powers, we do get some demons shown like Alastor, no not THAT Alastor, this one doesn’t know how to use a radio, who is Toga’s advisor in the underworld and Ei who is a Soul Demon in training and yeah there’s an obvious crush between Alastor and Ei. Not that it will go well seeing how Ei gets kidnapped and while I do think a rescue mission will succeed, it won’t be until much later, and much torture is ensured.
I already mentioned how in a previous ask that Vivian’s parents of Makoto and Kyoko were killed by Neo Steering Committee or I assume is Neo Steering Committee because they want to run bad experiments and those two would stop them. Speaking of Hope’s Peak, is anyone surprised they are back to doing evil deeds? No? It was a mistake for Makoto back in Danganronpa 3 to rebuild the school and I hope if Danganronpa 2x2 decanons Danganronpa 3, this is addressed as a reason why it’s a bad idea. But we find out that the reason Aliza and co are kidnapped and placed into a Killing Game is because they are to be used as guinea pigs to revive people who are previously deceased.
Which is basically translates to bringing back people from the canon series back, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a convoluted plot to revive Junko Enoshima once again, so she can be tried for her crimes or something. Since most Fangans that are in the HPA canon tie back to that bitch somehow. Or Izuru Kamakura as maybe Hajime died on Jabberwock Island and the Neo Steering Committee want their talent slave back. It could also be reviving people we haven’t seen who are lore important but as it’s the first side story, I don’t have a lot to go off.
Overall I say this side story does a decent job introducing the side story main characters, their goals and what their objectives are. I do wonder when the whole “we are working for the Mastermind” will come up since again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mizuno was given a tip by the Mastermind to deal with Toga’s group due to our observation of them. But that won’t be for ages.
That’s all I have to say, it’s a decent introduction, with some good mystery setting, but as its an introduction I don’t have a lot to say, perhaps Chapter 1 would give me more meat to work with. Who knows? I hope you enjoy reading this everyone and remember Aliza; no you will not be forgotten, I will have to be hit with a Blackout Light to forget about you.
