“ are you coming with or what ? ”
loptdyr:
talons click against stone , hissing as smoke rose from open mouth . there is an injury , a slice along the leg which cracks and weeps blood with each movement - the sound of defiance gives way to a soft whimper , head turning away from the stranger so that a long tongue might dart forth , lapping at the wound .
“ don’t worry, ” she assures softly, “ i’m here to help, that’s all. ” staying low to the ground, a shallow kneel to make her form as unintimidating as possible, she inches towards the dragon with hands outstretched. she needs to make her intentions clear but friendly. it was a slow process, but if she could get the dragon comfortable enough she could apply some salve and wrap the wound, “ i’m gonna touch you now, but it’s okay. ”
strongestrider:
Snotlout looked to the woman with a raised brow. It was a strange statement to him, but then he’d been so used to dragons galore for years now. Dragons left and right, and up and down, and running between your feet was pretty much the norm for everyone in Berk now.
“Yeah, I guess,” he said, looking up at a flock of Terrible Terrors passing overhead. “They can be a pain in the ass, though.” Literally.
Hilde was used to desolate stretches of landscape - hardly a rustle in the trees for miles. No humans, no dragons, just the trees and the small animals and insects that dwelled quietly inside. The chaos which surrounded her now was overwhelming and wonderful.
“I’ll take that pain with joy! Bites, scratches, and burns are nothing compared to loneliness.”

THE BASICS OF BRUNHILDE’S BACKSTORY:
she was abandoned as a baby. she doesn’t remember the exact scenario, but she knows that she was left because of her parent’s fear of dragons. she was either given up as a sacrifice in hopes of appeasing the dragons which plagued her village or was simply left behind - helpless- as her parents fled. regardless, she remembers being a baby and coming face to face with a dragon. it sniffed her, and picked her up by the blanket that was wrapped around her, and carried her off. the dragon must have known she needed roper human care as she was delivered to the doorstep of a hermit woman.
the woman, agaithe, took her in and raised her. agaithe was a little unhinged and paranoid, but cared deeply for hilde. she was consumed with her own problems, and had a habit of forgetting about hilde, but never when it mattered. so as hilde grew up and learned to fend for herself she spent more time exploring the woods.
when she was eight years old she came upon a baby terrible terror, blind and helpless, separated form it’s nest. she returned it to it’s nest but he creature imprinted on her. as soon as it was able to fly it visited her at her cabin. she had to keep it secret from agaithe, but over time she became friends with more and more of the local dragons.
when she was thirteen she met her next dragon companion, a timberjack - clearly full grown but completely malnourished. it was pale white with red eyes and veins visible through it’s wings - an albino. it’s lack of camouflage in the forest made it difficult to hunt. so hilde hunted for the creature and brought it food until it regained it’s strength. in return she gained his loyalty, and due to his pale appearance she named him ghost.
at sixteen she decided she wanted to see the world so she left home and started to travel with her dragons. she’d ride on ghost’s back with spirk resting on her shoulders. she grew comfortable int he sky, able to walk across ghost’s expansive wings and int he cool nights where ghost has enough energy to glide, she’d event fall asleep as they flew.
as time passed and her knowledge of dragons grew, hilde decided her purpose in life was to heal sick and injured dragons. she’d leave home and fly to new places finding dragons in need, ones that had suffered wounds form attacks or traps, and help them to the best of her ability. then she’d return back to her adoptive mother to restock her supplies.
dragons saved her life, and played a large part in raising her, she see no reason why she shouldn’t do the same for them. she has no concept of dragons as ‘evil’ beings, the only people in her life that have expressed that were the people who left her die.
oflightwings:
danger. the human is making a noise. it doesn’t sound aggressive, but hel doesn’t trust their kind at all. she opens her wings, and leaps into the air, letting out a roar before flying away. humans are all dangerous. do not trust them. they always hurt you. hel lands on an outcrop on a cliff, heating up the rocks with her fire before laying down, observing the human, now small, from a distance away.
as the dragon erupts into action, hilde reacts automatically. she kneels on the soft earth, holding her hands up over her head. she keeps her head low and how palms facing out in a gesture of surrender. she meant no harm, and she wanted to make herself as small as possible. the dragon doesn’t go too far though. it’s curious, she thinks. whistling through her teeth, she calls to her dragons. spirk would be there in an instant, she was sure. if she could show the fury she was a friend to the dragons perhaps it would approach her.

“ i hope you don’t mind me stepping your wings,” she spoke softly, as she dared the action. she knew the dragon would not understand her words, but she also knew she’d find out the answer soon enough regardless.
oflightwings:
Hel sits perched on the top of a tall boulder, tail curled around it. ear flaps occasionally twitch in catching birds’ wings or small creatures bounding from branch to branch. they’re too easy to catch for her, so she’s sitting there, bored, almost falling asleep basking in the sun. when she hears a footstep behind her, her pupils narrow, and she goes into defensive mode, ready to take flight at a moment’s notice.
Human.
Most of Hilde’s afternoon were spent foraging for food. Her dragons could live purely off of fish, but she preferred some more variance in her diet. So she’d left them at the cliffside while she explored the forest. Spirk was too loud, and Ghost was too big to traverse the woods without causing a major disturbance. So as she kept her eyes on the ground; looking for any signs of life. Her ear caught the soft sound of movement incongruous with the wind. She froze; listening closely. She hoped it was a dragon, despite their reputation she was better prepared to confront a monstrous nightmare than a bear. She hums softly, a mellow tune to make her presence known without spooking whatever creature it was.
“Don’t pounce,” she muses softly.
