The View || Harvey & Iris

Iris chuckled.
“It really is surprising. You would think as the hours pass, they would tire out, but that is not the case.”
He was right, they kept her on her toes, especially the younger classes. She believed that if there was a way to transfer the energy, they’d be able to power the office building alone. It was incredible. She didn’t remember being that energetic as a child, but then again, she didn’t have anyone to remind her of those years. But from what she did know, her younger brother wasn’t that energetic either as a child. He had his moments, but like her, he would much rather sit in a quiet corner and read. Or cause a little trouble, whichever came first when she wasn’t looking.
“My brother.”
Her response came with a warm smile and she looked to her hands clasped on her lap.
“I helped him a lot with his studies and when he didn’t ‘need’ my help anymore, I began to miss it. I decided to teach because of that. A little sad, isn’t it?”
She chuckled again, then looked over to him. Sometimes she thought it was as it was like she couldn’t let go. She often regretted how she was more of a mother than sister to Mistel at times and yet, she couldn’t let something like that go with him as he grew. Instead, she took her motherly instincts and channeled them into a new job.
“Not at all, why would it be? I think it shows you have a big heart. Your brother is lucky to have you.” That desire to help people was an admirable trait, one that Harvey shared with her. Though the years of working as a doctor had worn him down he couldn’t imagine himself in any other profession.
Harvey leaned over, elbows resting on his knees. “I grew up an only child and always wished I had a sibling I could be close to.” Or even just his parents. They hadn’t been around all that often.
“And you enjoy your work, right?” Because he knew no one took on teaching for the stellar salary.
