The more I work with the feet that I printed (the grey one), the less happy I am with them. They look ok from the outer side, but the instep side and the ball of the foot are off anatomically and it bugs me. Today it bugged me enough that I finally cracked and started a new pair.

One of the cats knocked my carl headsculpt off my desk and it’s unsalvageable, so I’m going to start again.

I’ve decided to do a ¼ instead of 1/3 and have fired up blender to make the joints because they are the most tedious bits.

I think i still have these feet that i started in (oh gods) 2015 somewhere. They were for my MSD sized doll. If I can’t find them, that’s OK. I will just have to relearn what feet look like again!

Chris is home! Here’s his box opening video. I feel like I might do a body review on him because of how posable he is for his size. :) Would anyone be interested in that?

I'm using a different primer (it's thicker) and in person it's an icky green/beige but photographs nicely. Odd.

Cool: 15.5 Cm tall. I started modeling mine in Blender as 13cm (i think) and settled on 20cm for her height at the last. But I had problems uploading the STL file. After upload, the preview window showed only one part of the doll (and really rough looking too with black areas). And it was incredibly tiny-er than I made it in Blender. Did you have problems uploading your design to Shapeways at first?

I work in 3DS Max and export as an .obj. I've had a couple of files that I've had to re-upload, usually because of wall thickness. Sometimes their units don't match up as well, I've had files that have the units set to millimetres which I've had to set as centimetres to get the right size - stuff like that.

They have a "print anyway" service now - which is fine for me because I hand finish the prototypes anyway.If you are having issues like parts of the model not showing in previews  there are a whole variety of reasons that could be happening - but the first thing I'd check is that all the normals are facing outwards.

Currently he's in pieces while I tidy up the printing artifacting and prime (and sand and sand), but I realised that I hadn't posted this photo here, so here you go...

How tall is your doll, Chris? 8 cm?

Chris is 15.5cm (just a hair over 6 inches) tall.

I had an unexpected visit from the courier at my Day Job this morning. He had remembered that I had had a couple of parcels redirected to the office, and stopped in here instead of home.

I am thrilled.

In order to keep my printing cost down, he is a very thin shell, so when I get him home I'll be giving him a soapy bath to wash away the printing residue, then filling his internal cavities [eye brow waggle] to give him some strength before I test string him.

his print is caught up in the post, and it doesn't look like I'll be getting him before the weekend.

They made him in the future? Can he time travel? Awesome

That is my understanding of the process, yes. :D
