jessicacapshaw: Season 5…my first episode. During my costume fitting Mimi (our costume designer) had a few shoe options. They were all cute tennis shoes that were all fitting for the bouncy peds surgeon that I had been hired to play for three episodes. However, at the end of the row of shoes were a pair in a much bigger box and that had little wheels in the heels…it was love at first sight and I was convinced that OF COURSE this uniquely named character that I was about to play HAD TO WEAR THEM. So Mimi let me take them home so that I could learn how to use them. I figured I had a couple of days. Then the call sheet came out a couple hours later and it turned out I was working the very next day. I put them on at home and inch by unsteady inch I learned to roll just a little bit further and further until…I looked like I knew what I was doing. The above clip is the result of that. Special credit to @christopher_gav for holding my hands (and my heart) as I learned.

#12 years ago #thanks for being the first lesbian on TV that stayed more than a moment that I can remember #(we didn’t have cable at the time thanks mom)#I was team bailey for the first scene or two but AZ won me over QUICK #I remember being SHOOK when she first kissed Callie and almost didn’t recognize her in that scene in her street clothes at first #totally thought I was straight at the time or *wanted* to be straight?#and what I most remember was that she wasn’t like any gay character I’d seen before and way younger than the gay people I knew IRL (😅)#her entire identity on the show wasn’t that she was gay—it was just one part of her but at the same time she was super (!🥺) sure of herself #and confident in her sexuality but also treated it like it was no big deal—#I think that was revolutionary for me to see 12 years ago #so thanks AZ and JCap and even Shonda 🥺#grey’s anatomy #arizona robbins #5x11 #wish you were here #is such a perfect title for Arizona’s first ep don’t you think???

#continuing my spiral...I think when Callie was talking to Bailey she knew it was Arizona but threw herself into the penny thing bc *Callie*#like Shonda sent her to NY thinking Sara would be on the show the next season...that only means one thing...#esp when they set it up as being a poor career choice for Callie—like not even a lateral move Bailey said it was a real downgrade #miss them #calzona

#I miss them #idk why their if/then ep vibes are giving me Calzona in NYC vibes.#so I only JUST put it together but my best friend parents also got divorced when my friend was Sofia’s age-ish #and they got back together a few years later even after my friend’s dad was about to MARRY someone else!#I have no idea what the details were bc I met my friend in college #sometimes I’ll randomly remember her parents were divorced for a bit and I’ll be SHOOK for a minute #so basically Calzona is gonna be them #give me callie and Arizona FaceTiming Bailey during this season or give me death!

#why tf am I seeing this now?!#they were ahead of their time I guess. I should be thankful they existed at all in 2008 #calzona #season 8 Calzona deserved a spin of my gosh imagine if they could have escaped before season 10 #mark would OBVI gone with them so the show wouldn’t have been *too* gay and ya know #I would have been cool with that!#I guess it would have been hard to write all 3 of them out of show as a package but ya know! it could have been done!

#the writers REALLY REALLY had no idea what do with them after season 10 huh?#like WOW what an absolute cluster fuck #no wonder Sara bounced after season 12 #BIG YIKES BIG YIKES #I guess I am REALLY curious what the ‘other’ plan Shonda had for Callie that involved her going to NY with Sofia but staying on the show...#like she didn’t want penny to meet Sofia and then a day later is moving across the country for penny #and it was bc she didn’t think they would survive long distance? YIKES #What Callie should have done is eat prayed loved her way her around a bit way more worthwhile than following perfect penny #Bailey was right when she was like wtf are you moving for it’s a downgrade #in my mind callie and penny break up like the second time Sofia visits Arizona in Seattle and they’re alone at home

#when I get rich rich I’ll commission a Gilmore Girls type sequel mini series for Calzona #something the show never really explored was Arizona staying in Seattle for long—she moved around a lot as kid and did residency at Hopkins #and her fellowship at Seattle. don’t think they ever said where she went to under or med school?#but it seems super likely the 9+ years she was in Seattle was the longest she lived in one place #I kinda like to assume one of the reasons it took her so long to decide to go to NY was bc she had actually considered Seattle home #I like the idea of her going to NY and realizing Callie and Sofia are her home #also I would kill for a one minute scene of Alex’s new hospital in Kansas calling AZ bc he listed her as a reference #but he didn’t tell her he moved so this new hospital calls and asks about him and she’s like wait what and hangs up to call Alex to say wtff #ugh there was so much potential for Arizona storylines and they did *that* in season 10-14 #Youtube

#one of things I love about Arizona was before the crash she was the only attending with an appropriate mentee relationship #like I loved the drama and the trills but if this was real life she was one of the few characters I would actually want as my doctor #this mentorship/friendship could never be overrated #it’s a shame they never found anyone who could have learned from Callie #the Avery/Mark thing was funny and all but I totally could have seen Jackson going into ortho I mean SPORTS!#it would have been a weirdddd dynamic now I’m super curious what that would have been like lol #team peds forever <3 #arizona robbins #grey’s anatomy #alex karev
