Friendship, Love, and the Hunger Games Cast

The fantasy franchise, which made it’s debut in 2012, spurred strong friendships both on-and-off screen. Since starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence in the films, the two have been dubbed Joshifer. The 23-year-old actor reveals to the magazine that he and Jennifer along with co-star Liam Hemsworth grew so close that they would have slumber parties — but it’s not what you think! “It’s not the three of us cuddled up in a bed!” he says, but rather to avoiding drunk driving. He adds, “We’re being responsible young adults!”

After wrapping the film, Mockingjay, Part 2, Josh reveals to DuJour that he and Liam split a bottle of Scotch and everyone hugged and freaked out. The trio (Josh, Liam and Jennifer) reconvened a week later for dinner where he says they laughed at how "dramatic” they had been.

    Peeta stated as he looked up at Haymitch from the round table they sat at, his eyes somewhat hazy with hesitance due to the words he was about to say. The two were alone in the dining hall in district thirteen, surrounded by gray walls and plain uniforms. It was a welcomed sight though, however boring it may have seemed to his companion. Peeta would gladly take gray surroundings OVER white. 

         “For keeping your promise to me, the one you made before the games, to get Katniss out no matter what.” 

     Her name dripped from his lips accompanied by the foulest of venoms, his eyes betraying the hatred that his words presented though, as they held a familiar warmth in them; a warmth that had  NOT  been present in his eyes for months. There was something about the man not far from him that calmed him, pulled the tranquillity that had been buried  D E E P  within by endless days of torture to the surface. 

          “I must have loved her a lot, to sacrifice myself for her.”

Since seeing Peeta in THAT state, very little had made sense about this war. It was obvious why Snow did it; get to Peeta, get to Katniss, thus striking a heavy blow to her morale and subsequently hitting the rebellion where it hurt. But there was something else — it just wasn’t right that something as good and pure as this damn kid was screwed around with. There was NOTHING sacred left in this world and it pissed him off to no end.

So he did whatever he could to help Peeta out. Visits, speaking on his behalf [both to Katniss who was still stubborn and to Coin] — they were all part of a bigger picture. He NEEDED to see Peeta get better. The whole damn rebellion needed it, whatever they said to the contrary.

“Yeah kid, I did. It cost a lot but... I did.”

What Haymitch REALLY wanted to say was that he had to break his promise to Katniss in order to keep Peeta’s. That his main priority had always been Katniss, as much as that tore at him, because she was far too important to this war. And at the same time, he’d never met another kid like Peeta who inspired him to be a better man.

“She didn’t deserve it; still doesn’t, but she ain’t as bad as you think right now. You two had somethin’ special that can’t really be put into words. You’ll remember someday and come back thankin’ me again,” he laughed a bit, then smiled warmly.

As warmly as his selfish, shame-ridden ass could.
