ephraim bounds up to a hotel room door that’s clearly n o t his own, sporting a pair of soft jogging shorts ( which he’s never actually used for jogging and never will ), a faded, oversized t-shirt, and some cheap flip flops. his curls are pushed back with a rolled handkerchief, and he’s not wearing any makeup because it’s TEN in the evening and ephraim has absolutely no intention of going out tonight. there’s a copy of ❛ everything is illuminated ❜ tucked underneath one arm; oh -- - and let’s not forget the toeing-the-line-of-obscene amount of toni moli masks loaded in the other. eleven, to be exact, ranging from avocado to red wine to cherry blossom to several more. curled fingers knock gently against the door and ephraim’s fully prepared to give a hurried ❛ i’ve got face masks and we can order room service and then maybe watch a movie or just chill because i also brought a book with me for some reason ❜ once it opens. it seemed people were moving slowly, probably due to the heat and the fact that they had a little more time than usual to set everything up. tris took this opportunity to explore the arena, gliding easily through the wide hallways and corridors on her skateboard. honestly this thing was a life saver, and made her job easier for the most part. plus most tour managers hated it, and she liked having that bit of a rebellious streak in her.

she eased around a corner, picking up a little more speed than she hoped for. damn, she was not going to run into a wall, not today, not again. and so she leaned to the left, rerouting the board toward a hallway backstage, but suddenly it was smaller than she anticipated and there was a person approaching her quickly, not paying attention. “fuck.” she mumbled grabbing the person as she was about to run into them and letting that momentum pull her off her board, letting it come to a stop with a small thump as it hit a box. “sorry bout that, but you should watch where you’re going.” she patted them on the shoulder nonchalantly.

with the ample time the entire crew were given to set up, everyone seemed to move pretty sluggishly -- - ephraim included. still, there was this buzz in the air and underneath his skin; it was half parts skipping-heartbeat excitement and raw, unfettered nerve. everything seemed too fast and too slow. ephraim wondered if he should lay off the coffee or help himself to another cup. maybe two.

he’d been pacing the hall just outside the dressing room, having finished setting up some time ago. there was so no denying it. ephraim was nervous. he was also too caught up in his own thoughts to register the distinct scrape of wheels as trista approached. in fact, he didn’t notice her until it was too late. ❛ shit -- - i should be the one apologizing. sorry. i was . . . ❜ he shook his head a bit, frazzled. ❛ . . . wasn’t paying attention. you’re okay, right ? ❜

“alright guys, so… this is it!” madhuri begins, clapping her hands together and grinning widely as she glances around at each face in the circle of people surrounding her. “so, before everyone scatters, i just wanted us all to get together so i could say a few things. first of all, i want to say thank you. every single one of you standing in this circle right now brings your own flare and contribution to what we’ll be doing every night and i feel super, super blessed to have such an all star team around me on my first big tour job.” she can’t help but beam at the mention of her job, rubbing her hands together subtly as she continues. “some of you are new to working with me, and maybe you’re okay with that, maybe you’re not. but whatever you feel, i want to make it clear that i am here for you. and everyone out in the crowd tonight? they’re all here for you. you’re gonna get what you put into every single day and night on the road, and i couldn’t be more excited to see where this thing’s gonna take us. so remember this night, this feeling, and remember, we’re only here because of the people in the crowd. so you’re free to go, have fun, get hyped!” she implores the group, watching almost like a proud big sister as she sends them on their way to go prepare and do whatever they have to do before their first show starts in a couple hours.

everything had been moving quickly since they’d arrived in miami that day. quickly and getting quicker, it seemed, as the time before their first ever show of this massive, nationwide tour grew smaller and smaller. as tensions grew to palpable so did the heavy knot in ephraim’s chest. nerves aren’t unusual for him. in fact, they’re customary whenever it came to working with a new crew on a new show. but to this extent -- - all nervous fingers, pacing feet, unsure smiles and hands -- - is new. when madhuri calls everyone -- - as in everyone -- - it’s a small relief to see her familiar face and the excitement and positivity she exudes. ephraim tries to listen, he really does, but he’s too far gone in this haze. once she sends everyone off, he lingers. ❛ hey -- - madhuri ? ❜ his voice is tight and hesitant. jesus, he thinks, could i get any more pathetic ? ephraim considers the million and one things that she probably needs to deal with. maybe he should just get back to the dressing rooms and just deal with it. ❛ sorry. it’s just i . . . i’m not feeling too hot right now, you know ? ❜

once the team stepped foot in miami, melinda immediately embraced panic mode to ensure the night goes by swimmingly. though she held high hopes for their first night, the cynical part of her knew that something was bound to go wrong and she mentally prepared for that before tour even began. with clipboard in hand, she briskly walked around the stadium, confirming that everyone was in their designated space and no one was off schedule. she paused for a second, attempting to catch her breath from running around; looking up from her papers, she saw a familiar face walking her way. “first day of tour! exciting stuff,” she spoke joyfully, attempting to feign excitement for a hectic tour season. “do you know where you’re going or need help with anything at all?”

❛ GLOSSIER. gosh, they’ve honestly got benefit and too face beat on cute packaging !! and their skincare products are pretty great too, you know. all their makeup stuff is a little too subtle for onstage, in my opinion, but i’ll sometimes use their serum treatments on the artists before moisturizer ! mostly, i just use glossier’s products on myself. ❜

what are your makeup do's and don'ts?

❛ hmmm. always make sure your face and hands clean before you put anything on !! blend, blend, blend until your damn wrist hurts. and uhm, always prime your eyelids before applying any eyeshadow. as for ‘don’t’s ? don’t put highlight beneath the arch of your eyebrows. okay, i mean – - it’s makeup and you can do whatever you want, really, but i wouldn’t recommend it. don’t forget your setting spray. don’t use long, harsh strokes when filling in your brows. goodness, was that too much ? ❜
