Florence didnât care if Andromeda felt like she was a monster. If she did, she was in control of her feelings. She could choose to believe otherwise, or she could change her behavior to make herself feel better. But to feel as if she were vilified was to miss the point of their argument entirely. Florence wanted a simple answer, a simple truth. She wanted to know if Andromeda took the stakes seriously, or if she were only fighting because it was a battle that impacted her personally. âMaybe you donât get it. And maybe you canât get it. Youâre in this for your husband and for your daughter, and thatâs a noble cause. I wonât sit here and pretend otherwise. But where were you before them? Whoâs side were you fighting on behalf of before you fell in love? If it werenât for Ted â if he didnât exist â where would you stand? Donât act like your morals donât come from a place of personal investment. Iâm not asking you to be perfect. Iâm asking you to own up to the places in which you fall short.â She could hear her own voice rising. She knew she was too hot tempered, that sooner or later she was going to say something that she would regret. And yet, Florence didnât stop herself. She couldnât. Not until she felt like she had won. âIf you died, it would make a statement. You can think about this as an individual cause, or one that benefits you and Ted and your daughter directly, but itâs more than that. This is all so much bigger than you. So stop taking it personally. Let the people who are actually impacted by your actions show our frustration, and donât get mad at us for doing so. For once in your life, shut up and sit down and defer to someone whose life has always been on the line before you make this worse or more confused for everyone else.â She paused. âAnd by the way, if you feel like a monster, maybe thatâs something you should take up with yourself.â
The problem for Andromeda was that before Ted she hadnât known there was a problem. She hadnât known there was a problem. To naive young Andromeda whatever her parents said was obviously truth to her she didnât know any better until she had met the most gorgeous man that she had ever seen who opened her eyes to the injustice of the world. âI didnât know there was a problem before Ted, before him I was more worried about pleasing my parents. All I ever wanted was to have my parents approval and love just like any child wants. The moment I knew just what my parents and their friends were up to everything changed for me. So yes I am in this because of Ted, but I wouldnât have known there was a problem without him. But I guess it makes me a piece of shit for not naturally knowing what was going on outside the world I was forced to be confined in. But I guess the details donât matter now do they?â
Andromeda didnât hold back on her reaction as she glared towards the woman, âAnd so you would rather a daughter grow up motherless and bring hell down upon our cause for a statement? You truly are heartless,â She bit back unable to stop herself. âIf youâre allowed to be affected by my actions you canât expect for me to not be affected by yours. Maybe you should be one to look in the mirror before you start pointing any fingers, darling,â the last word came out much more dark than she intended. âBut I donât think you know how to admit being the bad guy you have to be the damned martyr.â
