Lunar angst that I had in my mind

With the danger of Lunar spilling her secrets, President Earth decides he’s too much of a liability.

One day, Lunar runs to a quiet place to calm down after becoming upset about the planet situation again. There, he’s attacked by President Earth’s men. He’s beaten and broken badly and would have been killed if someone hadn’t followed Lunar after he’d left. (Who it is can be up to you for max angst. I personally have it as Cosmo and Harvest.)

They get Lunar back to Parts and Service and fix him. But, his voice box was mauled by one of the men who hated his rabbling. While they can replace it, it will take a while. And they can’t remove the old voicebox without a replacement so soon.

So for a while, Lunar has to deal with his voice being…gone. No corny jokes. No declarations of his superiority with backflips. No comforting words for his friends when they’re sad or angry. Nothing.

Maybe one day, he sneaks out of the Celestials’ house (because he’s been staying there since the attempt on his life) and into the theater or somewhere quiet but close to people. Maybe he tries to speak, trying to say Earth’s name, or Mars, or Andromeda, anyone’s. Maybe he just tries to scream, so he hears something that isn’t garbled static. But nothing works, not even the coughing he does after the strain is different. And he’s just left to silently cry until someone finally finds him.
