And that's great but you'd get more mileage out of just making an OC instead of obliterating an existing character's personality. I also can't say I see the vision with "character you're attracted too" if they aren't acting like their canon selves. I mean do what you want forever but as a reader nothing takes me out of a story quicker than those "He would not fucking say that" moments. Side note because it's semi-relevant: if I'm reading smut and the narration goes from being formal and period appropriate to suddenly using modern vernacular porn terms it makes what's going on significantly less hot. Especially if no one in the story would know what you're talking about and the narrator hasn't used informal/colloquial dialogue prior to the porn scene. It feels like the genre completely switched on me.

What’s Hydes/Jekylls relationship with Jack griffin?

Despite that Griffin fucks his shit up and is always trying to steal from him Hyde doesn't hate him. He gets a thrill when he can thwart Griffin and whenever he can slice off a body part or knock out a tooth he keeps it, like he's keeping score. He kind of enjoys the challenge and fantasizes about how he's going to catch Griffin and tear his arms off and eat them. He'll kill Griffin if he ever gets ahold of him. He must, it will bring him great joy and satisfy a deep want within him. But he will lament when their game finally ends. Griffin thinks Edward Hyde is insane and he's kind of terrified of him. He wants his research notes but the fact that Edward ENJOYS it in the way that he does really creeps Griffin out. He thinks Hyde is a freak and when he finds out Hyde can smell him and hear the sound of his heart beat he has an "Oh shit" moment. Still, he manages to escape and has come close to actually grabbing those notes. If he ever did get them he'd put as much space between him and Edward as possible. Edward would be pissed and throw a huge fit but then he'd dedicate himself to tracking down Griffin and he'd just show up in places where Griffin is trying to lay low.

confession on elizabeth x creature: personally, a lil currious to see it as less, "she could fix him" but more as, "he could make her worse"… Like I don't think elizabeth could be warmed up to the murder spree idea, like at all, but I think she has a lot of reasons to be angry and I sometimes think, maybe, what if, the creature could be someone who could break her out of the position of the perfect daughter, or something like that (very imperfect unpolished thought)

*leans in* I like this take, anon, you're on to something. I would love to see her have at least one moment where she goes completely apeshit on her family. Where she just breaks down and is ugly and screaming instead of "submitting with grace to constraint and caprice." I think I get so mad on her behalf because the things Victor praises about her are her gentleness and submission. He can recognize that she'd enjoy freedom but prefers her when she can be happy without it and put other people before herself. When she has the discussion about farmers vs judges Alphonse just brushes her off "maybe you should be an advocate," and shuts down the convo. Ironic because when Justine is on the stand Elizabeth is her ONLY advocate. Alphonse is content to let the law do it's job. Victor isn't saying shit. Elizabeth feels so alone, like no one really sees her and if they see her then they love the parts of her that she gives up to make them happy. And she tries to be content with that and to keep being a loving fiance to Victor and a "more than daughter" to Alphonse. She deserves to have a space that isn't a Caroline shaped void. The creature doesn't hold back. When he's angry he's angry and destructive. He could learn a little about restraint and she could see what it feels like to really let go and burn everything to the ground.

What makes you like or dislike a fic?

That's a pretty broad question. I have a few things i won't touch like "reader x" fics just because I have zero desire to feel like a character in the story myself unless it's like "Choose your own adventure" and it actually kinda takes me out of it if I see "y/n" or something similar in place of a character name. Don't like fics that are too ooc. Like if I wouldn't recognize the character if you didn't name them I don't see that there's a point. Everything else kind of depends on the writer's ability to sell me on what they're writing. I've managed to enjoy ships or plot lines I normally wouldn't because the writing was really compelling. Also a lot of my enjoyment hinges on HOW something is presented to me. "This is my self indulgent smut au, everyone is ooc and and shit gets really freaky" And then it does exactly that -great. All for it. I know exactly what I'm in for. I might not like it but I can't be mad. It delivered exactly what it promised. "This is a deep retelling of the story where I deeply explore the characters and their relationship," -You've sanded off everything that made the FL interesting in favor of making her a self insert and the ML is suddenly a sex god even so everything in canon would suggest the opposite- a deeply disappointing experience and time I won't get back.

How do you feel about people shipping The Creature x Elizabeth or using Elizabeth as "The Bride"

I think the ship only works if you're not framing it as being "The Creature gets a mate" or positioning Elizabeth to be in a position to "fix" the creature or to be some kind of reward or compensation for his suffering. Also in keeping with the themes of Frankenstein I would try to highlight that being "The Bride" is akin to a type of death. Becoming a bride is something I personally play with Elizabeth viewing it as the final nail in the coffin. She doesn't see much future after the wedding night. She understands fully that once she is a wife she is no longer her own person, she is something that belongs to her husband. It's a sentiment that's haunted her from the time she was taken in and presented to Victor as a "gift."

Then you throw in this creature who can suddenly take her away from everything and derail her entire life. Is that a good thing? Probably not but it is a change and it is a way OUT and you can push Elizabeth's character enough to make that appealing to her. I think it works best if it's complicated, messy, and leaves them both feeling conflicted about where they stand.

I also think it's a lot more interesting if it's from Elizabeth's POV. Like especially if you let her be traumatized, unwell, and genuinely trying to use her wits or manipulate the situation to keep herself alive. Meanwhile she's forming a complicated bond with this Creature she should hate but can't because she sees herself in him. In his monsterousness, in the vengeful and wrathful things she has wanted to be but couldn't.

Of all the people in the novel Elizabeth WOULD be the one who could see the humanity in the creature because she's just like that. Having the creature meet her instead of William is a good way to start if you want something less angsty but I personally think you could get something darker and more unpleasant if you put her at the wedding night and if you're feeling frisky you can really amp up the horror metaphors between being married and dying so maybe it's fitting that the "groom" is made of corpses. I like to harm my blorbos. I'm not going to apologize.

if you want a successful romance instead of a tragedy you need to ask "What would ELIZABETH" get from this ship and consider what Elizabeth is like as a person.

She has a strong sense of justice and feels that farmers are more valuable than politicians. She is creative and likes to write and to draw. She blames herself if someone gets hurt and fights tooth and nail to save someone she loves even when everyone around her is indifferent, silent or corrupt. She is always struggling against the constraints that have been put on her even if she has little power to change things from where she is.

Can the creature give her those things? I think he could, actually. I think there's a lot they'd agree on philosophically. He'd give her his money, power and friends speech and she'd nod her head and be like "facts." Because she also is in a position where she could find herself without either. The Frankenstein's take care of her and love her but at a cost to her autonomy and to an extent her personhood. She was also abandoned by her father if we're going by the 1818 version. He likes to read, she likes to write and he probably isn't going to be dismissive of her love of things like poetry and art. She's kind and patient, when motivated, he CAN be benevolent and soft. If you can get them to a decent place there's no reason it wouldn't work.

It just depends on how many murders he's committed in your version of events.

If I remember correctly, I think I saw you say you weren't sure if you were going to finish Bargains Forged In Storms. I just started it and holy moly, it's brilliant. Absolutely completely understandable if it remains unfinished, but know what you do have is fantastic, I'm so glad it exists, and if you ever pick it back up again, I'll be cheering you on! Your Adam is just...VERY EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in every iteration, lol.

It's a very very flawed fic and I have complicated feelings around it. I like about 50% of it and the person I was writing it for and I had a bit of a falling out which soured me on it for awhile. I plan to finish it for the sake of giving it an ending and possibly giving it a re-write down the road because for the 50% I do like I want to expand on it and I feel there's a lot of potential. I've also evolved a lot as a writer and I can see the growing pains which sometimes makes it very hard for me to look at the fic or want to re-read it. But I did go back and read the comments and I was touched by how many people genuinely seemed to gravitate towards the fic and I've come around on it a bit. It's an imperfect creation but I still find myself loath to completely abandon it.

as a writer and a Frankenstein fan, what kind of situation or even character could change book Victor's way of thinking? Mostly everyone depict him as some kind of unchanging rock, unmoved by everything, not being able to ever see the creature as a being but as a thing. And this is very accurate with the book, yes but would do you think is even a way to change his ways? (Therapy?)

Honestly I think it would be very difficult to change Victor's way of thinking. A lot of how he is comes from his upbringing and even so he resents some of the things his parents instilled in him he has internalized their beliefs about responsibility, duty, and maintaining appearances. Something that's pretty apparent about Victor is the heavy burden of duty placed on him as the oldest son. Similar to how Elizabeth was raised to fill Caroline's place Victor was raised to take on Alphonse's role. He views Elizabeth as an extension of himself and takes it upon himself to oversee Ernest's education. Whether he can see it or not, he has been parentified and when he tries to create a child of his own outside of the tight, smothering, circle created by his parents it goes horribly wrong. He can't tell anyone what happened because failure isn't an option and I don't actually see his family, particularly his father being helpful. I think Victor also believed in some way that by not telling Henry or Elizabeth about the creature that he was protecting them. One theme that carries through out the novel is that of power. Victor is powerless. He's powerless to defy his father in any meaningful way, he's powerless to save Justine, he's powerless to say "no" to marrying Elizabeth and most importantly he is powerless against the Creature. The Creature is very blunt in calling out Victor's lack of power going so far as to call himself Victor's master and Victor a slave. At the crux of that power imbalance is fear. The creature has nothing to lose and so he's fearless and that makes him powerful. Victor has EVERYTHING to lose and that makes him fearful and that makes him helpless. It's so difficult to say what might "fix" Victor because so much of what is wrong with him is rooted in either pride or fear.

Huh, I never considered that Christine's musical style might not go over with the audience.

Not to be super cynical but do you really think the kind of people who go to eat cotton candy, see side show attractions, and watching a woman in a skimpy swimsuit perform "bathing beauty" want to hear an Operatic aria? Christine fans might show up just to see her but she'd be very out of place with all of the other acts and by and large this is not her target audience.
