wip from a comic.
"mike cups will's face in season 5" truther, if not, you'll be hearing from me. it's all i want, it's all i need, it's all i think about.
i have so much to be thankful for
sometimes I remember that Robin, Will and Mike have scenes together and smile to myself
coming to your screens this year
Will Byers is probably autistic (psych analysis)
So I guess before I get started, I just have to mention that everyone should keep an open mind. Imagine all of the autistic rep you’ve ever seen- okay? Now, throw it out the window XD. Because almost all of it is inaccurate, and offensive. Okay, so I’ll be citing scientific articles as well as giving my own insight as an autistic person- who is studying to be in the medical field. Every autistic person has different experiences, but i’m just giving my input as an autistic person (who has average/above average intelligence- like Will) to paint a better understanding of ASD, and to explain why I head-cannon him as such.
“mike doesn’t feel the same” please tell him that
sunlight
i went a little ham with the rendering. do me a favor and zoom in, cause the resolution is so high that every time i flipped the canvas i could hear photoshop crying out in pain
i had a ton of fun drawing the details. also if u noticed my paladin design on the wall, i love u
reblogs much appreciated :3
the full senior promic!🍀
How can anyone hate him
Mike I'm coming for you. Treat that boy well
unseen art for will byers day part 2/2
“I see you but do you see me?” I don’t like that at all actually. he was watching mike and will…
Mike wasn't completely lying to El in his "I love you" speech, AND it doesn't rule out Byler
The monologue often seen as "proof" that Mike and El is an endgame couple is actually one of the strongest hints of a Byler conclusion.
Because Mike was saying "I love you" to Will.
Sounds crazy? Of course! He was speaking directly to El, after all. What the hell am I talking about?
Some have focused on contradictions and other issues with what Mike says, including listing her superpowers instead of the normal person she wants to be loved for being. Plus, he had to do it (and was pushed by Will), or else El and all their friends in Hawkins might die. El probably did not believe him, which would explain why she hardly talks to him afterward. But I actually disagree about MIke's "I love you" being a total lie. Because Will had convinced Mike that she loved him because of something unique to Mike, and he appreciated that. I think the more accurate reading is that, while Mike's monologue may have had issues, he DID feel something genuine... But the logic of events points more toward Byler than away from it. The problem for Mike and El is that Mike was saying "I love you" to the idea of El that WILL put into his head:
Will said that El felt like a mistake, and Mike made her feel like she was better for being different. That she was terrified of losing Mike, and pushed him away for that reason.
So Mike comes out of that conversation with new feelings for El: he thinks that she needs him to love her, and his love helps her to be a superhero.
But El's journey in Season 4 was to LEAVE Mike to "become a superhero." When she left a note for Mike when she left for the lab, she tellingly signed it "From El." She was letting go of their romantic relationship when she realized he couldn't say he loved her. Her journey in Season 4 has been about finding out who she is independently from others in her life (most importantly her "papa" Dr. Brenner). El has been going through her own journey this season that has had little to do with Mike.
While El was piggybacking, Mike said "I love you" to her, but he was thinking of the person Will described in the van as desperately needing Mike and who Mike is a hero to.
That person that Mike thought about, of course, is WILL.
It's not that Mike couldn't have known El needed his love earlier in the scene. El confronted Mike for not saying he loves her. But we all saw that El's heartbreak didn't convince Mike that he needs El.
Ironically, it was WILL'S heartbreak, HIS emotions, and HIS words that did. And Mike felt it this time, because it came from WILL.
Deep down, Mike wants to be someone's hero. He's the leader; he's "the heart." When dealing with a superhero like El, he can admire her and love her, sure, but is his love a burning passion? Does it make MIKE feel how he wants to feel? Will's painting was the perfect gift, because Will knows and understands his best friend better than anyone. Mike doesn't want to be loved by someone because Mike admires them. He wants be loved for being exactly who he is and he IS THAT PERSON'S HERO BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS. The "make you feel better because you're different" is not just about Will + El; it's true about Mike, and Will's love more than anyone makes him feel that way. Whereas Mike admits when he rambles in the van that he does NOT feel that way with El.
Will's love gave Mike the strength again to be a hero. Two scenes at the end of Season 4 foreshadow "leader Mike" coming back; his speech to El, and his "We will" shoulder grab with Will. Whatever issues there were with Mike's monologue, it's undeniable that it was THE callback to "leader Mike" of s1 and s2. Though didn't help El win, he helped. And It was WILL'S love for Mike that convinced him he could be that hero. And it was WILL's love that convinced Mike to say "I love you" to the person described to him in the van, who (as it turns out) was WILL.
So we'll have a final season, where there is this loose end: Mike will somehow come to the realization that Will was describing himself and not El and in the van. Mike will realize that the first time he felt he loved someone was because of Will. (It's the perfect formula, writing-wise, to make a person confused about his romantic feelings!)
Finn Wolfhard himself said in an interview that he complained to the Duffer Brothers that has character was "clueless" in the van scene. They assured him that it will "pay off."
I think it will.

nothing makes me more mad than melvins who villanize will for liking a boy, calling him a perverted creep, how mike would be grossed out by him (you literally don’t understand who mike is at all.)
what’s crazier is this mainly comes from queer melvins… like is there something you need to vent about? do you have any idea how hurtful it is to say that?? i’m not even saying that because, “oh youll fuel the homophobes.” no idgaf, they’ll always think what they think. it’s the fact other queer people come across those tweets and internalize it, especially younger queer people.
liking somebody as someone that’s trans and gay, it can be a nightmare. i feel like a monster like the way media portrays us to be, even though i know i’m not. it is SO common for a queer person to feel this way, and can be an incredibly difficult mindset to forget. so it genuinely pisses me the fuck off when i see other queer people push this idea that queer people are predatory simply for having queer feelings, even if its for a straight person. it just doesn’t help.
you can’t convince me byler hate/will hate isn’t rooted in homophobia, you just can’t. sorry. if you ever said something along the lines of calling will a creep and are queer, i sincerely hope you learn to accept yourself one day. but don’t blame and attack others just because you haven’t yet
You can take the boy out of Hawkins,
Not the Hawkins out of the boy.
Song: End of Beginning - DJO
Will doesn't wish Mike liked him back, he wishes he wasn't gay. And I think about that.
exactly, I think he accepted that's he's gay rationally, but he wishes he could be "normal" sometimes because of his internalized homophobia that makes him feel different not in a positive way but like he's "a mistake" and against nature... like he says himself
He wished he didn't have those feelings for Mike in particular even if Mike makes him feel more confident and like he's not a mistake, but only because he thinks he will never be reciprocated romantically AND he doesn't want to lose his best friend in the world, he's worried about that
he's afraid he could lose him even as a friend if Mike doesn't end up liking that he's gay and in love with him... he was not really expecting more than friendship from Mike, he's happy just being his best friend for the rest of his life...
and at the same time he feels jealous and wishes he could have that type of romantic relationship even being gay (I think Jonathan is one of the people that helped him the most to accept himself in the years and even make him wish that maybe one day he could be loved too) and when he looks at El and Mike & at all the couples at rink o mania he feels so alone
because he thinks he will probably never have that, he will never be allowed to hold hands in public with someone he loves, he will never be allowed to fall in love and show love like Jonathan can show love to Nancy with things like having her lipstick mark on his cheek
