oh my god so ive recently discovered Shannon, Eddie and Buck from 9-1-1 are a poly ship thats happening and its lowkey really good, im kinda loving it but theres no ship name like buddie (buck and eddie) or shuck (shannon and buck) I PRESENT SHUCKIE
2011 > 2019
"Take your Japanese robo-toilet and shove it up your ass."
Female Eddie Diaz and Female Evan Buckley but everything changes.
Eddie:
Eddie deals with old fashioned norms, told to step up and be the woman of the house when her mom was feeling down re: abandoned by her husband to look after three kids. Having to take on cooking, laundry, dishwashing while her little sisters got to play and have fun.
Eddie quietly disappearing into the background until she meets Shannon, who encourages her to start in a nursing program. And then the same old story: Eddie gets pregnant, they get married before they even turn twenty.
Except Eddie doesn’t go the army. Eddie stays home like a good mom and wife would do, taking care of her sisters and son all while her parents constantly criticize her on everything she doing wrong.
Shannon works three jobs to keep them a float, relying on Eddie’s parents to pay house bills, having to constantly deal with them both undermining him as a man and he gets word of his mom getting sick.
This time she follows Shannon without complaint, it’s what good wives do after all, her parents are worried but it’s the first time Shannon and Eddie are behaving in their tradition gender roles without outside input.
They move to L.A. and Eddie is once again crushed under the weight of caretaking. Shannon is constantly out trying to find another job, leaving Eddie to take care of his sick mother and Christopher.
One day, while trying to regain their spark. Shannon and Eddie go out to a nice resturant, except a woman with a pink marks above one of her eyes starts choking on a piece of bread.
Eddie jumps into action, trying the Heimlich multiple times before performing a tracheotomy, saving the woman’s life.
Buck:
Buck, still a failed savior baby and doing everything to get her parents attention. Maddie married Doug and they move away however when Buck can’t take it anymore and asks Maddie to come with her, Maddie says yes.
Maddie is too afraid Buck will turn out like her, she recognizes the signs she saw in herself. Sweet, trusting, lonely enough to accept anything so she has to leave Doug for Buck.
They travel the countries, hitting all the same spots as before except Maddie protects Buck the whole way, no more sleeping in cars and being in vulnerable positions just for some money.
They still go to Peru but instead of Buck randomly hitching a ride to L.A Maddie researches, and they get an apartment around the 118 and Buck still joins just because she thinks it’s cool but also because she wants to be a first responder just like her big sister.
Maddie finds her way to the dispatch center all on her own, after picking up odd jobs with Buck she is fully set on being a first responder again. They go through training together, getting their certifications much in the same way as canon.
Buck having settled into work, gets back on the dating scene with this dispatcher, who takes her to a nice restaurant. Except before the date can even really start she starts choking on a piece of bread, her throat starting to close up.
The last thing she can remember is a pretty women with a beauty mark above her.
the only part of Eddie's army past I want to be explored is him being a horrible husband and essentially a deadbeat dad
because he enlisted for one reason and one reason only: to run away from the life he had in El Paso. From his parents, from Shannon, and from Chris. So, he was a 19 year old kid who got himself into a mess he was too young for and then enlisted in the army that had no place in his life. That wasn't the life he'd wanted, so he ran from it. that's a very realistic response.
he also left a 19 year old girl (after she just gave birth) by herself with an infant that has special needs. the only help Shannon had was Ramon and Helena Diaz from who Eddie ran away on another continent and who he left his wife with. I am older now than both of them were when they got married and had Chris. You know nothing about life or about yourself when you're 19. There's not much more you learn by 21 too.
and the show portrayed Eddie as a broken man that made choices and faced the consequences. which is good I guess but not enough. a lot of Shannon mentions are about how she died and Chris was left alone again or how Eddie can't move on.
what I want to see is guilt, regret and eventually acceptance. I want Eddie feeling guilty for leaving Chris when he was younger than Theo. when he helps Buck out and does that so eagerly which didn't happen with Shannon and Eddie feels overwhelmed with how much energy taking care of a toddler really takes. I want Eddie admitting he was very wrong for what he'd done to Shannon when he left her with a kid she didn't know how to take care of properly. I want Eddie accepting that he did make the wrong choices and had no one's best interest at heart then. that Eddie being, well, Eddie, hurt Shannon and Christopher
because Shannon Diaz deserves more than haunting Eddie through a random woman that resembles her. Eddie should feel like he has no right to grieve her because he wasn't a good person in her life. Eddie should be haunted by what he did to her instead of vice versa. and he needs to learn to forgive himself for that because he was only 19 years old too. Shannon Diaz deserves acknowledging that she was sad and exhausted and burned out and even though she left Chris, she wasn't the first one to make that choice. the choice that was influenced by her mom having cancer on top of all. Eddie left before the worst had even started and for all the wrong reasons.
Eddie deserves to let go of his first marriage and I think that's only possible with him admitting that Shannon was abused in that marriage.
Shannon made bad choices too, but she had been essentially punished for that all throughout season 2. Eddie made it clear that she was a traitor for leaving, despite the fact he broke her trust first
idk, being a mom at 18 and having to raise a special need child practically by yourself plus the support from your in-laws (the in laws your husband himself can’t stand) but seemingly no support from your own family while constantly having to worry about your loved one dying sounds quite scary, depressing and isolating.
Knowing your mom is terminally ill when you are merely out of college age and for whom you have to be the sole caretaker of sounds absolutely terrifying.
Dying at 26 right after finally getting and giving closure and were ready to explore your life is just fucking tragic.
There are too many Eddie apologist and not enough Shannon apologist in this Ted talk I will—
eddie, who is straight and has proof bc tommy kissed him in vegas and he felt nothing only to get kissed by buck later and oh
i am a bottom Eddie Diaz truther cuz you can't let that ass go to waste lol
a fanfic where buddie are on a roadtrip and get lowkey hatecrimed after arguing like a married couple and then they are run off the road and crash and eddie wakes up alone in hospital and is again lowkey hatecrimed by the local sheriff who accuses him of spousal murder and then eddie proceeds to escape hospital and ride on a horse and hold someone at gunpoint screaming for buck and oh no wait it's an actual episode of 911 that they wrote and filmed and edited and released
Buck, don't add weight. 9-1-1 Nashville, S01E12
Eddie is so much warmer with Shannon’s mom Janet in their one scene in Eddie Begins than I think we ever see him with his own mother.
I wish we saw that more often in pre show or everyone’s a teenager type fics. I really see part of why Eddie loved Shannon being because her family, or at least her mom, was so much more relaxed, warmer, more welcoming to him, less judgemental, so he never felt like he gad to hide himself or walk on egg shells at Shannon’s house, you know?
we as a society moved on from buck telling eddie that he gets off on his mental chastity belt and punishment kink too quick i think.
eddie + being really straight. 3/?
