I feel really dumb that i just now noticed their group chat is called “Machwitze” because their last name is Machwitz. If you separate the words “Mach Witze” it literally translates to “make/making jokes”. Also adding -e makes it sound like a plural form in german so maybe they did it because there’s 3 of them. idk how i never noticed this .__.
