Making a good tv show series finale has genuinely never been tried

#is this a safe space to say I’m still upset about the hacks finale #it’s not the end of the world but. I did hate that thing

I just don’t know how many more “scrolling people’s blogs to look at fanart and gifsets and the occasional funny post and having to also slog through a mountain of bitching moaning complaining hating miserable bullshit” I’ve got left in me team

I don’t think season five was really that bad I think people wanted it to be something it wasn’t and then were upset that they had an expectation that wasn’t met. Across many groups of people not just what I think we all consider the big one. And I guess that’s fine but back in the day we used to build our expectations of a tv show on the actual canon of the tv show, not on what fandom people are saying online. So maybe there’s part of the issue idk. Maybe everything new sucks because of the internet maybe tv was better when we weren’t constantly exposed to everyone’s thoughts and opinions about it all the time maybe people should try harder to meet media where it is actually at and really think about where that is before assuming it’s just exactly where they are. Idk. You’re probably never going to win with a tv show if you can’t like. Figure that stuff out though

Re: the concept of adapting frendo lives into a movie. Would actually love to see how a movie could capture Cole’s ever growing dread and confusion at the constant presence of the smell of rotting flesh inside his house for a year. Would also love to see that scene where he’s like facedown in his own blood half naked and everyone thinks he died and was a cheating gay bastard. I do also need to reread that book maybe because I do feel like I’m exaggerating events in my head based on how they felt and not necessarily how they actually happened. But that was genuinely the vibe….

And you know what. Another thing. We’re all aware that I think el escaped and survived and that’s how I interpret the ending. But beyond that even if you DO think she died and sacrificed herself it is CRAZY that everyone uses suicidal language about it. “She killed herself” and never “she sacrificed herself to save her friends from living the rest of their lives under the threat of the military hunting her down” when male characters do the noble sacrifice thing it always gets talked about like they’re a hero who did something brave and gigantic and noble and caring. But el just. Killed herself. Have we noticed the verbiage disparity is anyone else mad about it or just me. No one has ever talked about Billy’s death at the end of season three like that. No one ever talked about hopper’s (fake) death like that. No one talks about iron man like that no one talks about green arrow cw arrowverse like that. No one talks about charlie pace abc’s lost like that. Men get to nobly sacrifice themselves for the greater good but el “killed herself”. Doesn’t that bother anyone else. And it’s not the show doing that it’s not the show saying that. It’s YOU. it’s viewers like YOU saying that. Doesn’t that fucking bug anyone.

#I’ve seen people argue that it disrespects her to believe Mike’s escape theory #and obviously I think that argument is. well bullshit. but if we suddenly care about respecting her #EYE am going to argue it disrespects her to talk about her sacrifice as if it was a suicide

I do also think a lot of people are. Idk how to put this. Bad at understanding and respecting el as a character? Because they understand step one that she is more than her relationship with mike. And they think they’re done after completing step one and rejecting the shipping mindset. But you’re NOT done is the thing you’ve just given up on thinking about her because without shipping she actually just became uninteresting to you and you’d rather talk about something else. And whatever that’s not illegal but then don’t pretend like you know her…. Don’t pretend you fw her when you don’t even care enough to think about her beyond how you disagree with the canon. You don’t like that they wrote her doing that or being in this relationship or putting her in that situation. What DO you like? You can’t just say “I don’t like how they forced her into this romance with mike!” And think that’s analysis. You can’t just say “I don’t like the way they wrote this aspect of her storyline!” And think you’ve done enough performative caring about her…. Why don’t you like it what do you think is wrong with it that’s out of line with her character. What are some things you do like. Why should I believe you even like her at all in the first place…. You’re a fake el fan and it’s pissing me offffffff omg

And we just copy pasted the steve and robin dynamic onto them….. what if everything could be shoved into my little boxes that make everything the sameeeee instead of engaging with the aspects of the canon that are or could be different. Whatever though I’m not pressed about it
