Thoughts on the Croatia team setting their base camp in Alexandria?
I thought it was Ghana are they both in Alexandria
For the thought crime of experiencing optimism you have been sentenced to five years of propeller hat and rainbow lollipop
It drives me crazy when characters are infantilized, bullied or even (somehow???) villainized for being optimistic and/or cheerful. Often times, they aren't even unrealistic about it.
It’s not allowed anymore boss. Twenty years of blowing bubbles in the bouncy castle added to your sentence
i wont hatepost but sometimes it does feel like this to scroll fandom tags
I’m hearing the same set of words twice and yet silver springs being named after silver spring just does not make any damn sense
It has never once felt like this to be in Maryland let alone silver spring come on now.

Going to the tidewater peninsulas like northern and middle neck is crazy because it’s like. Oh this is the birthplace of the deep ancestral evil festering at the root of everything it is right here. Colonialism, slavery, genocide, the nexus of capital and blood at the heart of America. But it’s also almost all gone both in material and popular memory.
So many American historical figures were born there and all made themselves by leaving. Tobacco turned the soil to sand and the blood money got drank up or migrated down the river over the years and a lot of the buildings have rotted away or got burned out in the war (Bacon’s, Revolutionary, Civil) and the islands are slowly sinking into the bay. Ozymandias. It’s quiet there now. Flat and greener than green in the summer. The river yawns open. Not much left but the evil. Alternating English aristocratic and indigenous place names. Water in the air, blood in the dirt. Being there feels different.
and the southern peninsula has that field of rotting 10-foot tall president head sculptures. a little on-the-nose if you ask me but no one did

ok you know what mommy’s sick and tired of your poor reading comprehension
Please explain harrenhal the concept
What if a castle ate blood and it was so good at it that it also ate time and warped the narrative around itself so that everything starts and ends there. What if it was a living ruin with blood in the walls and burnt-out towers that scream in the wind. What if the staging place and slaughter house in every major westerosi land war remembered it was this. What if a castle was perfectly ordinary and its “curse” was just that it so happened to do to feudal lords what those lords do to peasants.
Also I’m american so all our historical sites and big fancy buildings are like this blood-soaked charnel house built by the overambitious where every horrible thing you can imagine and more that you cannot happened to people here is the foundation of our national identity as long as you pretend the blood isn’t there. Yeah it was built in atrocity and half-burnt out in the war but we rebuilt it exactly like we think it was. There might be a curse if you pay for the ghost tour. So harrenhal the concept reads as familiar

i am rereading Wolf Hall right now (85 percent through) bc of your posts it went back on the tbr (and since i first read it when i was about 12 i think). why did you not warn that the prose is so good???? this shit hits like a goddamn truck!!! and the stuff she chooses to leave out/not speculate on is soooooo interesting too
The prose in the wolf hall series is so good and unlike anything I’ve ever read. Totally agree that what she leaves unsaid is as compelling too. Ugh. Need something else like it
