although mattea’s vibe may seem all dark and intimidating, what-with the devil make-up and all, her bestie is literally kamala khan so you know she’s always down for a bit of whimsy.
mattea usually prefers the nickname tea (“tay-uh”) over the more conventionally used matt / mattie. there’s no real reason for it other than “tea” is what her abuelas would call her so it’s what she’s used to. she won’t bite your head off if you do call her mattie — just know that while she will respond to it, she will be correcting you after. honestly the only person who gets a pass to use it without fuss is one francine nelson — but then again, foggy has seen sides of mattea that the world will never get to see and that comes with certain perks.

this is less a psa and more of a suggestion but if ur ever having trouble figuring out how to respond to any of the starter calls i've liked / memes i've sent ( if you don't want to automatically jump to our muses already knowing one another ), all i'm gonna say is: mattea is a giant eavesdropper. she loves sticking her nose where it doesn't belong and butting into other people's business. she'll blame it on the superhearing like " srry i couldn't help but overhear — " but know that she is a hundred percent doing it on purpose.

the thing i love about mattea is how she genuinely loves being part of a group. like a big thing about matt murdock daredevil is how he’s inherently not a team player, he prefers to work alone, etc. but mattea? she’s always so quick to show affection to her friends and easily offers tactile reassurances without hesitation. she doesn’t do well with isolation and needs other people to stay grounded. we learn in her debut issue that she had a previous band ( the defenders?? ) but they were “axed” by kingpin for unknown reasons; kingpin mentions this during their fight as a taunt because he knew it would get a reaction out of her. yet despite the loss being an obvious trigger for her anger and guilt, she doesn’t hesitate to help kamala’s friends — literal strangers — when they need it and goes out of her way to join their fight once she knows her people are taken care of. at her core, she yearns for a group of her own and is at her happiest when she has a community around her.
There are some things you cannot control, and I am at least three of them.

given how earth-138 is a poverty-stricken, political and capitalist hellscape run by actual fascists, i’m sure the education system under osborn’s administration is fucking abysmal. school districts are severely underfunded and impossibly censored, bordering on camps for the military-industrial complex to funnel bodies into the symbiote-officer program; all this to say, special programs for the disabled are 100% nonexistent. so in all likeliness, i genuinely don’t think mattea was ever taught how to read braille. i’m sure her dad — and then her abuelas — tried to teach her with what they could get access to but again, resources are limited.
