Latest Brass Band of the Day roundup from Feb. 2015
And that was the most fun tour ever. Thanks @pallbearerdoom & #solstafir!
I kinda don't mind this creepy weird well-targeted ad from Amazon Music. Good job, internets!
So, I’ve been doing this daily share of my favorite brass band of the day. Please enjoy the massive playlist of sorts so far...
Our new @mortalstheband record is coming! July 8th, USA. Listen to first track, "View From a Tower" now: http://ow.ly/wAsbX
Just wondering why I have never posted this cover art until now. Spurred on by my Alumni Association mentioning that we are now on Relapse Records, here it is! The MORTALS cover art from the "Death Ritual" EP. (2012)
So, Ken from brutal blog Inhale the Heavy asked me a bunch of well-researched questions about music, Mortals, and Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls http://ken.inhaletheheavy.com/a-conversation-with-mortals/ THANKS!
We ran out of time for tonight’s show featuring Brass Bands (around the world) for Mardi Gras. Here’s more hot metals than you might ever need! Starting with the Soul Rebels Brass Band (NoLA) above,
The Hot 8 Brass Band (NoLA):
Brooklyn’s Sugartone Brass Band:
Preservation Hall Jazz Band, from their brand new collection of originals, as performed on World Cafe:
The Treme Brass Band and the classic “I got a Big Fat Woman”:
From France, the Skokiaan Brass Band, covering Soul Rebels:
and back to Brooklyn for the Pitchblak Brass Band:
Luke and I were looking at Hieronymus Bosch’s painting The Garden of Earthly Delights and discovered, much to our amusement, music written upon the posterior of one of the many tortured denizens of the rightmost panel of the painting which is intended to represent Hell. I decided to transcribe it into modern notation, assuming the second line of the staff is C, as is common for chants of this era.
so yes this is LITERALLY the 600-years-old butt song from hell
Thank heavens for Spanish Flea.
That one time Nikki Glaspie, drum hero, came by work...
Donate to @williemaerock and qualify our team to bowl on September 15th! Thanks a million.
