I was discussing Star Wars with a kid at work today. Not unusual. The topic of how many limbs are lost from the first 6 films came up. FYI the answer is 23. So I had a thought and Darth Vader lost the most limbs, all which by lightsaber, for a total of 5 limbs. If I guess Vader's age by his (SPOILER) death in Return of the Jedi he was in his 40's. That means he lost at least one limb per decade of his life on average. ALTHOUGH if we get really nerdy on this (just what you wanted) he was like 10 when he became a Padawan. Not sure how old when he actually started fighting in full fledged lightsaber duels. So lets just say 15 or so. So if we don't include the first 15 years of non combat his average for lost limbs in years get even worse. My conclusion in all of this... Darth Vader has to be the crappiest lightsaber duelist in the SW Universe. He lost every limb and one of them twice. Totally bad at it. ‪

Spot the International Space Station

Right now, there are humans living and working off the Earth on the International Space Station. They orbit our planet from 250 miles above every 90 minutes, which means the crew sees 16 sunrises and sunsets every day.

If you’re in the right place, at the right time, the space station is visible to the naked eye. It looks like a fast-moving plane, only much higher and traveling thousands of miles an hour faster. The fact that it’s the third brightest object in the sky makes it easier to spot…if you know when to look up.

That’s where we can help! Our Spot the Station site allows you to enter your location and find out when the space station will be flying overhead. You can even sign up to receive alerts that will send you email or text messages to let you know when and where to look up.

Why is the space station visible? It reflects the light of the Sun, the same reason we can see the Moon. However, unlike the Moon, the space station isn’t bright enough to see during the day.

what did your discussion of the lesbian death trope entail then if you didn't discuss the enormity of it? jason and many of the other writers have discussed buffy on social media so we know they are familiar with the show. i don't understand how you can go from saying that you guys knew about the trope and discussed it to wow i believe jason, he must genuinely not realize how trite, overused, and damaging this dumb trope is???

HOW the fuck do we keep making these stupid mistakes?

if i were a justifiably angry fan, and i were reading my tumblr - and everything i have said, you know what i would ask myself?

i would ask - “javi, you said you talked about this in the room - you said others talked about it in the room - you knew about the trope, you tried to make it understood, when you realized that your boss was going through a course of action that upheld something you felt - no, knew - to be wrong, if you saw that he just wasn’t getting it, for whatever reason - why didn’t you storm into his office and make him GET IT by any means necessary? why? were you afraid to lose your job? were you tired? were you lazy? were you worried about causing a scene? did you think you were such a great bunch of storytellers that it would somehow not remind people of their own horrible experiences in the real world?”

and frankly, my response would most likely entail an admission of any and all of those awful truths - and perhaps a couple more that i don’t have the guts to own up to in public.

i know it’s cold comfort, but you’re right.

and you are right to be dumbfounded that it is possible for people in power over the popular culture to just not know, and in not knowing to downplay the discussion as not being the the equal to what they want to do with story.

it sucks.

it makes no sense.

and yet, there’s episode 307, on the air for all to see.

and the next time, i will do everything i didn’t do this time.

and hopefully it will be enough.

no, i imagine i’m all alone on a friday night (which is when this came in) and instead of wondering why i find myself alone on a friday night i go on tumblr and try to insult a writer by calling him gay but little do i know that that writer is not insulted by being called any kind of sexual orientation because it is not an insult to be anything on the spectrum.

and then i imagine i suddenly figure out that my short sighted, hate filled brain is probably why i’m alone on a friday night in the first place and i cry myself to sleep.
