side by side, beginning of a series of model organisms. an homage to the animals that we study to benefit humankind.
mouse lady dedicated to one of the most important model organisms in Neuroscience. in her hair is a rendition of one of Santiago Ramon y cajal's drawings of the mouse striatum. he is a role model to me, as both a prominent artist and neuroscientist.
nicotine: the molecule I'm focused on for the next few months and perhaps years in my PhD project. this amazing, tiny molecule produces feelings of reward and pleasure but can lead to addiction and subsequent death. did you know, at high doses it is actually aversive? it can cause temporary paralysis and vomiting. but humans are really good at titrating the amount we injest to ensure it remains rewarding. here i've depicted it with black tar and sludge with a glimmer of gold.
