“Grow out of love with those who cause you to stop loving yourself.”
— Noor Shirazie
The first thing I will do when you are mine, is kissing your forehead and apologizing to you for every night you slept, wishing me by your side.
~ Nizariat
“One day your heart will take you to your Lover. One day your soul will carry you to the Beloved. Don’t get lost in your pain, know that one day your pain will become your cure.”
—
“‘I love you,’ he finally whispered, but I was not shocked to hear the verbal recognition of what I already knew. He looks at me like I am the only soul in the room. He laughs with me as if I have cured a thousand ailments. He holds my hand without taking away my sense of freedom. While it makes me soar to hear him say he loves me, I felt it long before I watched his lips dance with the phrase.”
— Noor Shirazie
“One of the advantage of being an immigrant is that two very different countries are forced to merge within you. The language you were born speaking and the one you will probably die speaking have no choice but to find a common place in your brain and regularly merge there.”
— Edwidge Danticat, Create Dangerously
“She would walk along the sand on the cloudiest evenings, cherishing the same skies people seemed to run from. I guess that is what happens when you have braved enough storms.”
— Noor Shirazie
“She retreated into a story she never meant to write for herself.”
— Noor Shirazie, Into the Wildfire: Battle Scars
“Oh Lord, help us through this blessed month to know our strengths and live by them. To know our pains and how to heal them, to know our value and how to share it. To know our blessings and how to be grateful for them. To know our wants and see where they conflict with our needs. To know our shortcomings and how to confront and defeat them. To know how to really forgive all those who have wronged us, and actually forgive them. To know how to seek forgiveness from those that we have wronged, and to then go out and seek it. To know what charity is by being generous with our wealth and our time. To know what integrity is by being honest and truthful, and to know what goodness is by extending our hands without qualification to all those who are in need. Help us know who we truly are, and not let the people we are today be afraid any longer to meet the people we can be tomorrow. Let us know love. Make us among those who live with true contentment and gratitude every day. Allow for our beings to be filled with self love that we go out and share with others; rather than a love of ourselves that keeps us from being everything that we are able to be. When our hearts are heavy and we are filled with darkness, bring people to us who illuminate our existence through kindness, compassion, and love. Make us always the reason that people have hope in this world, and never be the reason that people might dread it. Perfect us inwardly, so that we are victorious in the battle that is taking place every day for control of our hearts. Increase us in brotherhood and sisterhood so that we might together take on every challenge that we individually face. Give us hearts that race to action, and feel anger whenever on of our sisters are abused. Let our rage be only at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we will work for justice, equality, and peace. Give us hearts that feel sadness when anyone of us loses a loved one, and the gentleness and mercy needed to be there for them fully. Give us hearts that feel joy whenever anyone of us succeeds, and the love and graciousness needed to celebrate that achievement. Give us hearts that are not lost in the purist of this world, but hearts that are courageous enough to look beyond the glittering illusions that decay and corrupt our truths. Help us to truly be those who come together on principles of truth, patience, and mercy so that we can as a community do for others what we have the ability to do. Inspire us to take in the orphans, refugees, and children that the world has forgotten. Let our tears shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and conflict, so that we will reach out to comfort them. Let our successes be many, as we make a difference in this world by doing the things which others say cannot be done. Make us those who find real peace and real love, and not just the semblance of it. Make us those who give real peace and real love, and not just the facade of it. Make our motivation selfless, sincere, and never self-centered. Give us the courage to express gratitude and appreciation. Give us courage to not only express our love to our beloveds, but to show them just how much and how deeply our love runs, and that they are never unappreciated or unloved. Give us the strength to stand again after we have fallen, to understand that we will make mistakes. Grant us the wisdom to learn from our failings and the humility to truly gain from our successes. For any suffering that we have sustained, bring to us understanding and the strength of healing. Grant us a life that we manage through wellness of mind, body, and heart. Give us the wisdom to make decisions through our hearts and souls, and never at the expense of them. Help us to remember all those who are forgotten, alone, or feel unseen. Make the best of our deeds the last of our deeds, and let us not depart this world before we have made it better for future generations. Protect us always from hearts that are not humble, tongues that are not wise, and eyes that forgot how to cry. Amen.”
— Imam Khalid Latif
“Do not speak about your money in front of a poor person. Do not speak about your health in front of a sick person. Do not speak about your power in front of a weak person. Do not speak about your happiness in front of a sad person. Do not speak about your freedom in front of a prisoner. Do not speak about your children in front of an infertile person. Do not speak about your mother and father in front of an orphan. Because their wounds cannot bear more.”
-Ameer ul-Mu'mineen Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه
وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ وَكِيلًا
And rely upon Allah; and sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
— Quran 33:3
“Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”

this is your reminder — you have survived every difficult day, and every loss, up until this point in your life. you have survived every hardship you thought was hindering you. you have healed every heartbreak, even when you did not think you were healing, even when your faith was hard to find. nothing that tried to weather you was ever the end of you. uou always moved forward. you always picked up the pieces and rebuilt yourself. you turned your losses into lessons. you saved yourself time and time again. please, just remind yourself of your most discouraging moments, of the wounds you thought would never mend, of the voids you thought you would never fill, and look at how you endured, look at how you recovered. and while life is always going to be a balancing act between what is haunted and what is hopeful within you, while life will sometimes be difficult and gritty and messy all over, if your past has taught you anything i hope it has shown you that you are stronger than what is trying to break you right now. life will never defeat you. you have always fought your way out of the dark, and you always will. you always will.

And perhaps our hearts need to be broken by this Dunyā for it to yearn for the Hereafter.

To be patient and to be thankful.
That‘s what i’ve learned in my life, my most important lesson.
To be thankful for everything in life. It could be worse. There are people out there who wish to be in your place and want to have what you own.
To be patient and have trust in God, in every circumstance. If you completely trust Him, you‘ll see how the hardship will turn into a blessing. You‘ll see why it was necessary to go through this all. And you‘ll understand that you always should‘ve trust Him. Be patient. You‘ll find your blessing. That‘s why the darkness is necessary. To be able to let the light shine brighter.

Alhamdullilah for every sudden change, every challenge that moved life in better directions. Time to turn a blank page and let happiness arrive. Thank you, God, for always planning things in the most perfect way.
