Trans men CAN be gay, and Transwomen CAN be lesbians!
I see TERFS use the excuse that “biology” or “Sex” makes it to where you “physically” can’t be gay or lesbian due to your sex being different from your gender.
Here’s the biggest problems with this
1) Trans people CAN change their sex, you’re ignorant if you don’t know that. While they can’t change chromosomes, they CAN change other sex defining characteristics. (Sex is determined by more than external genitals and chromosomes) Sex is not set in stone and CAN be changed in a number of ways.
2) Saying a transman can’t be a lesbian because he has a vagina is like saying a lesbian should be able to be attracted to a transman because he has a vagina, despite any other transitions the person may or may not have gone through. That is horribly wrong and many lesbians define their lesbianism as more than genital related.
2.5) Saying a transwoman can’t be a lesbian because she has a penis is like saying a homosexual/gay man should be able to be attracted to transwomen despite the fact that they may have transitioned in other areas that help define her as a woman.
3) Using genitals and sex as an excuse to reserve orientations is also very sexist against intersex individuals. (Sexist? Intersexphobic? Not sure the name for it) to say that. Since intersex is defined and determined by multiple factors, an intersex person with XY chromosomes could develop a female body due to the Y lacking a certain part that helps define “masculinity”. The reverse can apply to someone born with XX chromosomes, where the X chromosomes contains the certain part that is usually present in the Y chromosome, making them have a masculine body. To continue this, a condition exists in which a girl at the age of puberty “become” males. Intersex gays, and intersex lesbians exist.
4) Attraction doesn’t always specifically apply to genitals. A homosexual man may also be attracted to transmen with vaginas, and lesbians may be attracted to transwomen with penises, simply due to the fact they’re attracted to that gender, not the genitals…but this doesn’t apply to everyone..and trying to set in stone a set way one can be a lesbian or gay is simply wrong as lesbianism and gayness/homosexuality are felt in a number of ways from person to person, depending on their up-bringing, how supportive their family is, how they view sex and gender, which country they live in, their culture, ethnicity, etc can all effect their homosexual experience.
5) With modern technology/medicine, we can transition our sexes very accurately, with progression coming in the future, we can only assume the way we change/manipulate sex will only get better, as transwoman can now get implants that make their breasts produce small amounts of breast milk, and science is working to making penises with DNA much like how livers/kidneys/etc are grown in labs for patients.
6) Reducing people to their genitals ultimately erases their identity as that gender or sex and will just make that person feel as if they will NEVER accomplish complete gender euphoria/happiness with themselves. It’s just heartless and toxic and invasive of people’s privacy. You don’t know a trans-person’s genital set, you don’t know if they have intersex genitals, the genital set of their presumed assigned gender, or if they transitioned to have the opposite genital set. All of those factors are unknown and don’t NEED to be known.
7) Additionally, nobody can determine your gender or orientation as they are not in your shoes or mind. They don’t know your biology or psychology, so why should they even try unless you asked them for advice?
8) If you react “If they cant change chromosomes then they’re transition is basically making them intersex” Then you’re wrong. Many intersex people are actually considered “cis enough” to determine as a male or female. So if someone has mostly correct sex characteristics, they may be disregarded as intersex completely, or it may not even be known. Additionally, you can only be born intersex, and many forms of intersex have nothing to do with androgynous/mixed sex features. Any transitions aiming to be “mixed” can be considered “Bigenital” which can have nothing to do with gender identity. As sex does not equate to gender…In conclusion, if someone has mostly changed their sex characteristics, why shouldn’t they be seen as “cis enough” or close enough? (Sex doesn’t determine your validity as your gender <3)
Trans lesbians are NOT invading lesbian spaces,
Trans gays are NOT invading gay man spaces!
Intersex Gays and lesbians are also perfectly valid in lesbian and gay spaces!
