The Sims 2: Super Collection (MAC) ā Imported CAS Items
CAS items from all EPs/SPs imported.
I know there arenāt many macOS players (prove me wrong!) but I finally managed to import all CAS items from all the Windows released packs. Why bother when I can use Parallels to play UC or Crossover to play LE? I dunno. This version of TS2 is special. The game's limitations encourage creativity, the absence of some of the packs makes me crave for more content. All these feelings bring a lot of nostalgia and I can relive the childhood times again.Ā
The list of extracted files:
Celebration! (Celebration)
Feel free to mix and match or just download them all. Installing these allows for Pre-order CAS content and all of the Store CAS content to show in the game, too.
Funny trivia: The game itself natively recognises H&M content and it even has the packās icon in the top-right corner. My guess is they preferred importing Bon Voyage over H&M and I am grateful!
INSTALLATION:
(Best used with: FinderāGoāGo to Folder...)
Extracted files are found in the packs folder and named according to the pack they were extracted from. Make sure you drag the files themselves from the packs folder to the Bins folder. The game may not read it if it is left in the subfolder. Place the files in the destination directory below:
'/Applications/The Sims 2.app/Contents/Assets/Expansion Packs.localized/Bon Voyage.localized/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins'
Skins.package can be found in the skins folder. It is crucial for AL + FT masks to work. DO NOT replace Skins.package if you have not installed both AL + FT. Replace the original file in the destination directory below:
'/Applications/The Sims 2.app/Contents/Assets/Expansion Packs.localized/Bon Voyage.localized/TSData/Res/Catalog/Skins'
If anything goes wrong, there is a skins/z_back_up folder with the default Skins.package.
And that's it! Alternatively, if you installed only one of the packs or you simply do not wish to replace Skins.package, proceed to the instructions below.
Place the Skins.package file from the skins/alternative folder to the Downloads folder. Select either AL or FT according to the pack(s) you have installed.
~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.sims2.appstore/Data/Library/Application Support/Aspyr/The Sims 2/Downloads
I would like to continue this journey and extract all of the buy/build items, too. I have done this with HM, FT and MG so far but there is still plenty of tinkering to do. Paradoxically, a lot of these items miss textures or their textures reference other items, which needs to be individually fixed. The list goes on. What is more, there is a plethora of items which introduce new gameplay or are interconnected with game mechanics of later packs. These will require lots of work and recreating their BHAVs, of which my understanding is very limited at this very moment and will require some extra work.
