SimPE 0.8.3.4

A few bug fixes, including the rude failure to write the File Table, and Collection Creator writing empty collection package files. Now out for Window and Linux. Mac version not yet updated-I have to switch computers to my Mac to do that. Mod The Sims - SimPE 0.8.3.4 for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

SimPE for Linux is Fixed.

Version/edition-agnostic: GameRootAutoScanner finds game files by scanning a folder for TSData subfolders, not by reading Windows registry keys a specific installer wrote — so Steam Legacy Collection, Origin Ultimate Collection, GOG, disc installs, repacks, whatever, all work the same way once you point it at the folders using the Z: path.

Launches from the exe directly: no install.sh/simpe-launch.sh, no runtime-install step — wine SimPE.Main.exe (in any prefix) just works.

Dotnet detection fixed: self-contained publish means the apphost never consults DOTNET_ROOT/registry/global paths, so the leaked-env-var bug that was causing false "runtime not installed" errors is gone.

Does not need to be installed in the same prefix as the Sims 2 game.

Does require Wine11 or newer, or Proton Experimental.

Hood Checker is Now Released

Today I finished the testing of my Mac version of Mootilda’s Hood Checker. I got it signed and notarized, as usual, so MacOS won’t complain about it. It is a universal app, so it will work on Intel and M series Macs. As usual, please let me know if you have any issues with it. I should be down to just app maintenance now, which doesn’t really take a lot of time, except that it is now 6 apps I am maintaining all by myself.

In other news, I finished the sweater I was knitting for my husband, and started a pair of socks for my grandson. My 6’ grandson, with proportionately long feet. I have finished 3 of the 6 theology books that were in my “to read” pile. I have not made the cranberry jam yet. My house is still in sad need of a good deep clean.

In the Past 24 Hours:

I bought an external SSD for Linux. External, because Windows updates have a nasty habit of overwriting the Linux booter. I downloaded a Debian iso, and installed Debian. I installed Wine, and Proton, and a whole bunch of other things, switching my desktop from Gnome to KDE along the way. I installed the Sims 2 from Steam. I installed VSCode and cloned my repository. Then I got to the actual work of making SimPE work correctly on Linux.

To recap what actually got fixed along the way:

Wayland → X11 (KDE Plasma switch) — fixed the game hanging on window-manager "not responding" false alarms nouveau/NVK → Intel iGPU via DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME — fixed the full-system freeze, which turned out to be the immature Vulkan driver for my RTX 4070, not a game or Wine bug at all wine-9.0 → wine-11.0 (Proton Experimental) — fixed SimPE's DPI-awareness crash on any menu click Application.ExecutablePath → AppContext.BaseDirectory in SimPE's own code — fixed plugin/panel loading when launched via the dotnet.exe muxer (needed because the .exe apphost's runtime detection is unreliable under Wine) linux/simpe-launch.sh + linux/install.sh — packages all of that into a one-click launcher, committed to the repo

So, a new release of SimPE for Linux is out now.

a Linux port of my Windows SimPE version. No Nvidia DDS utilities or DirectX needed. 64 bit, running on .Net 8, in C#. Original 0.77 version

New SimPE Release Today

Bug fixes and more plugins! Theo's Color Binning tool, Theo's Alt Sim Surgery, and JFade's Collection Creator are all added and working. It is on my Github for all 3 platforms, Windows, Linux, and Mac. You can download all three from my Github. You can also download the Mac Mootilda's Clean Installer and Mac Delphy's Download Organizer. Still testing the Mac Mootilda's Hood Checker, but it coming very soon.

Rugs and Decor/Miscellaneous

Today I did some testing of Hood Checker for Mac. A bit more testing is needed before it will be done.

But mostly I worked on my Downloads folder. I moved all of Windkeeper’s and Nengi65’s rugs to Decor/Rugs in the Buy catalog using my Mac version of SimPE. Only the mesh file needs to be reassigned, as only the mesh is an OBJD. (Edit: nope all the OBJD files need to be reassigned. ) And Echo’s mesh, too. It makes me very happy to finally have all my rugs in one location!

I will probably do more reassigning. Fireplaces come to mind. Maybe I will move the upper kitchen cabinets CTNutmegger made to the same place as the base cabinets. The possibilities are endless!

Note that I can’t use the handy re-cataloguing mods, because it is my Mac, and missing EPs and SPs will crash it.

JFade’s Collection Creator

I asked, and JFade has given me permission to add a plugin to SimPE that is, essentially, his Collection Creator.

It is not ready yet, but will be soon. Today was spent updating the MaxisObjectList. In 2007, there was no Bon Voyage, no Celebrations, no Teen Style Stuff, no Free Time, no Apartment Life, no Kitchen and Bath Stuff, no Ikea Stuff, no H&M Stuff, no Mansions and Gardens. So all the objects from all those EPs and SPs had to be added.

The plugin is mostly done. I still have to implement batch add, and a couple other loose ends. I really hoped to be able to alter the app so that you did not have to add the original object to include a recolor in a collection. Due to how the game and SimPE “see” objects it was not possible.

I will keep pushing on. While Mac simmers will never get true parity of Sims 2utilities, I have been doing what I can to level that playing field. So, my Mac Simmers, go make something using the tools you now have!

hello! i recently downloaded some of the hugelunatic stuff pack conversions you shared, and have been absolutely loving them :) however i did notice that unfortunately the teen style stuff bodyshop cc package seems to cause pink flashing in my game. i believe this may be due to the file's large size (174 mb). the pink flashing seems to happen with pools and water, and immediately stopped when i removed the file from my downloads folder. i’ve noticed blue flashing snow as well. i have a relatively small cc folder so I don't believe this is caused by my overall cc amount either. would there be any way to compress the cc file's size to eliminate this? or are there any other fixes i could potentially take to fix this problem? i'd greatly appreciate any help you could provide, thank you for all you do for mac simmers!

I am sorry you are getting pink flashing and blue snow! I will see if it can be compressed. It causes no problem for me - what are the specs of your Mac?

PhotoStudio Templates

Does anybody have the original PhotoStudio templates that could be downloaded from the Ambertations website long ago? I have searched MTS, and found a couple by Ailias, for Pets and GLS. I searched the MTS forum and found a thread with a bunch more templates, EP/SP unspecified. But I would like to have that original set of templates for the early EPs. Huge Lunatic's Stuff Packs for Mac

Garden of Shadows is gone. I am sad.

Garden of Shadows is where I linked for Mac users to get those Stuff Packs. So, I have now uploaded them to my SFS, but with One More Thing added. I have all the CAS/Bodyshop content working, including H&M stuff. I have replaced HL's bodyshop bundles with my own, which work when you put them in the Downloads folder. They show up as CC, but they all have a polite tooltip that tells you which stuff pack they are from. The build and buy files can go in Downloads or in the game at Bon Voyage/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins. If you put them in the game, then my SimPE for Mac 0.8.2.13 will load them and you can select them in the Maxis object catalog. The Collections files all go in the Collections folder.

What’s Next?

SimPE for 0.8.2.13 for Windows, Mac and Linux seems to be a solid release. No bug reports in over a week.

I will be done with Clean installer for Mac tomorrow - the version I have uploaded to MTS doesn’t do Sims correctly, and I will fix that in the next release, which I really can’t do until the first one makes it through the moderation queue.

And then…then I have free time again. After a year of having my nose in a computer working on these apps most of my waking hours my house needs rather a lot of attention. I am going to grind wheat and bake bread. I am going to make cranberry-orange jam, with the cranberries I have had in my freezer ever since the cranberries were in stores. I am going to finish knitting a sweater for my husband. I am going to read the six theology books I bought.

And maybe, just maybe, I will create more stuff for The Sims 2. If I do, it will all be done on my Mac, because now I can. With SimPE and Clean Installer and Gimp and maybe Blender, if I am ever insane enough to try meshing again, the Sims2 ecosystem is now complete on a Mac. My 20 years of waiting are over.

There is something odd going on. All my Mac lots, from 209 and up, crash when you try to enter them. And not just on a Mac! They hang loading on a PC as well. From here forward I will not be photographing my lots in Windows, to keep them clean for Macs. I may go back and recreate some old lots. To the best of my ability to figure this out, it is the Maxis packager in the Windows versions of the game creating the issue.

I discovered all this while working on a Mac version of Clean Installer. So that’s the good news.

SimPE for Mac is HERE!!!

SimPE for Mac now exists! It is a Wine wrapper around the Windows SimPE 0.8.3.1, patched for Mac file paths, loading objects and TXTR files from the Stuff Packs Huge Lunatic extracted, if they are installed in BonVoyage/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins. Fixed Wine weirdness of not properly displaying the Resource List. Should work on both Intel and M series Macs, but is dependent on Rosetta on Apple M series.

Like all Wine apps, your local hard drive will be the Z drive in the open and save file menus. To get to your Sims 2 folder, you click Z>Users>yourusername>Library>Containers>com.aspyr.sims2.appstore>Data>Library>Application Support>Aspyr>The Sims 2.

It is not uploaded to MTS, because it exceeds the maximum file size for upload. I am working on that. The wine wrapper makes this a large app. Like 1.2 gig. I went through becoming an official Apple developer and getting the app approved, so MacOS won't complain and refuse to run it.
