Let the clearing commence!
June-July 2015
So this was pretty straight forward, but it wasn’t a quick job at all. Everything had to be sorted through, and if it was to be kept, we needed to find a new place for it.
What you don’t see is we were also clearing out a packed out garage, and maaaany bags were taken to our local recycling centre.
But a lot of progress has been made from the initial photograph, and we are now in the process of considering how we are going to remove the current roof and re-do it.
Currently there are many sections to the roof, most are corrugated metal (which contains asbestos) and one section was more recently repaired and is just clear corrugated plastic. In the middle image you can clearly see a blue rope. This is knotted inside, goes over the roof and is anchored further down the garden.
We need to be really careful when removing the roof as asbestos is very dangerous. Through researching, we have found out our local centre will accept three bags of asbestos if it is double bagged. To bag the sheets, they need to be broken up which can get dangerous. Another centre near us will take the sheets as they are, but charge us £20 per sheet, this seems very unreasonable.
We are most likely to attempt to break it up, but with much precaution.
