THE BASE STANDS BEFORE THEM LIKE AN IMPENETRABLE CASTLE , an imposing structure , and a depressing sight that stands out against the greenery that surrounds it . a POISON to the land itself . it’s not that hard to find her——— it’s harder to stop her from rushing in by herself . the situation is critical from what he understands . ( it was just a coincidence , a stroke of luck that the mantis had crossed paths with saw gerrera and his people again ) but there was nothing coincidental about meeting erso . a mission of sorts . a favor , really , to lend a hand to saw’s people . currently , it seems like a tall order——— he didn’t expect to get there , just to find most of them CAPTURED , but their goal wasn’t something IMPOSSIBLE to accomplish .

DESERT DRY , SKY THE COLOR OF RUST AND EARTH THE COLOR OF SEAFOAM . the dry illusion of an ocean across the mountainous ridges on the horizon blurs from the heat , blending greens into oranges and reds . the mantis docks to stock up on supplies and fuel and cere leaves them to their own devices after a short WARNING——— it’s only been a handful of weeks since the escape from nur and its terrifying fortress . it’s also the first time since they’ve had more than a handful of hours planetside , skirting along the outer rim , under the thin veil of anonymity . they are to be STRANGERS , amidst the cluster of traders , merchants and smugglers . there is no REAL GOAL here , not for them , nothing beyond exploring the local market and enjoying not being stuck inside the mantis .

DANGER IS A CONSTANT NOWADAYS . it’s an almost prerequisite of any sort of operation inside — and occasionally , even outside — the empire’s jurisdiction . but what used to be met with a healthy dose of trepidation , now carries a quiet sort of anticipation . the calm before A HURRICANE , like a sleeping giant just waiting to rouse from slumber . he throws an expectant look at his companion ; a raised eyebrow , a questioning look . this little assignment was not his idea , but he’s also never been one to turn down the OPPORTUNITY to help out . it might’ve started with exchanged intel here and there , the whispers of where to go and what to find——— but finally helping out in person was probably just a matter of time . ❛ —— are you going tell me what the plan is now ? ❜

IT FEELS LIKE A DREAM . the fortress , fighting trilla again , the chasm of darkness with its terrifying pull , barely escaping . so many things could’ve gone wrong .. so many things almost did . the sith striking trilla down and cere falling—— he tries not to dwell on it , not to overthink the past and the what if of events that might’ve happened . they are ALIVE , and that is cause for celebration ( even if the holocron is gone , he now knows it was the RIGHT thing to do ) he kneels on the floor , quiet , focused , trying to meditate . the hum of the ship is as much a lullaby as the soft breathing of the person currently occupying his bed . her presence had flickered at first , caught between LIFE AND DEATH , and for a second he’d thought she wouldn’t make it , but merrin’s magic and a couple of bacta patches had tipped the odds in trilla’s favor , eventually stabilizing her .
eyes open , the return to full consciousness slow , like waking up on a lazy morning . he stands up , moving towards the exit of the room when he feels it—— there , another flicker . her presence STIRS IN THE FORCE , and he pauses , glancing back to trilla’s prone body . ❛ trilla ? ❜ he should get cere , but instead he moves closer . it’s been a handful of days , almost a standard week by now .. he’d been worried she wouldn’t wake up , and he can’t help the tentative excitement . ❛ ——— trilla , are you .. can you hear me ? ❜ a little more confident now , a hand reaches out , a gentle pressure against her shoulder .

𝙷𝙴 𝚂𝙼𝙰𝙲𝙺𝙴𝙳 𝙳𝙾𝚆𝙽 , 𝙷𝙰𝚁𝙳 on the centre console. Trying to stem the incessant beeping , he already knew that there was nothing he could do. A 𝐅𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 growl coming from his throat as he hit one button , pushed the next one and tried to keep the craft straight. The 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐃 and 𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 beeps coming from behind him in the form of a droid did nothing to help alleviate his own haywire nerves. “ 𝐎𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲? 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭? “ He hit the button again as more beeps came from the droid which was now going in circles. “ 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭! “ Another beep from the droid – clearly stating ‘ 𝑂𝐻 𝑁𝑂𝑊 𝑌𝑂𝑈'𝑉𝐸 𝐺𝑂𝑁𝐸 𝐴𝑁𝐷 𝐷𝑂𝑁𝐸 𝐼𝑇 ,’ as all 𝐏𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐓 . A hand ran through dark tresses , mind stalling – much like the craft. “𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲!” More beeps from the droid as the nose began to tilt down as Noctis tried to get the craft to restart , using every limb available to him , ( including legs and feet ). 𝐵𝐸𝐸𝑃! 𝐵𝐸𝐸𝑃 𝐵𝐸𝐸𝑃 𝐵𝐸𝐸𝐸𝐸𝐸𝑃 ! Noctis looked up at the frantic beeping of the droid. Barely had time to utter a curse word as a 𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄 came up to meet the craft , throwing all balance off. The back end spun around , 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐆 Noctis to the other side of the cockpit , droid coming to land against his stomach , a huff passed his lips as he caught the droid , and with a 𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐃 𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐂𝐇 of metal – the craft finally came to a stop. A beep , a question. “𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭.” They were still alive , which was a miracle in itself. “𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭.”
THE SKY ILLUMINATES BRIGHT FOR A SECOND , CUTTING A PATH OF SPARKS LIKE STARDUST . he recognizes the sign immediately——— the telltale DISASTER of a starship spiraling out of control as it breaks through the atmosphere . it’s a good enough distraction too , just the thing NEEDED to get away from the imperial troops attacking just seconds ago . he goes deep into the foliage , cutting and weaving between giant roots and even bigger trees . it’s an imposing sight , though not quite as impressive as the greenery of kashyyyk . the ship is nearby ; even if he can’t SEE IT anymore , he feels the pull of the force , the pinpoint of the foreign entity that ripples through the forest . the closer the gets , the more signs there are that something tore through—— broken branches , burnt tree bark , pieces of metal still heated , the smell of smoke .
the little droid on his back peeks over one shoulder . ❛ —BEEP - BE - BE - BEEP— ❜ right . he nods , a short glance to the side before focusing on the mess in front of him . it was supposed to be an easy visit to the planet , not one filled with FIGHTING , running from troopers , and now poking around a crashed vessel . ❛ i know , i know . let’s check to see if there are any survivors . ❜ cautiously , he makes his way closer . the enemy must be HOT ON HIS HEELS , which means there isn’t a lot of time . ❛ ———— hello ! anyone alive in there ? ❜ a hand loose by the hilt strapped near his hip , the other stretched out in front of him . it’s easy to find where the metal is supposed to open . a short PULL , senses reaching out , and he FORCES OPEN the boarding ramp .
❛ wonder what happened , ❜ a low murmur between himself and bd - 1 . it wasn’t NORMAL for crafts to fall from the sky . the droid thrills again , a short burst of beeps and cal snorts . ❛ yeah , i’ve definitely seen better landings . ❜

IT IS THE HIGHEST PRAISE HE COULD EVER HOPE FOR . the hero with no fear , known for his bravery and skill , but also known for his recklessness and impulsiveness , depending on who you asked . it is a heavy mantle , to be master skywalker’s padawan ; sometimes , cal wakes up with every intention of pinching himself just to make sure he isn’t dreaming . not chosen by anakin , but for him , and while that had felt like a heavy burden at first , now it was seldomly thought of . anakin was his MASTER——— teacher and friend and the person he TRUSTED THE MOST . cal wanted to make him PROUD . he wanted to live up to the expectation , to know he was deserving of being anakin skywalker’s padawan . brave , compassionate , clever , proficient , accomplished , a genius in the battlefield and out of it . he KNOWS he’ll never be that good . ( they call his master the CHOSEN ONE ; he wonders if he struggles with THAT TITLE like cal struggles to be deserving of the title of PADAWAN ) but the pressure is different , he knows that too . he’s also LUCKY ( even though master obi - wan says luck doesn’t exist ) but HE IS . he could’ve ended up with someone else , but they somehow ended up TOGETHER . maybe it was MEANT TO BE——— the force works in mysterious ways , and for that , he is also thankful .
the words are UNEXPECTED , clashing a flutter of nervous energy and surprise . warmth pools from the inside , filling him up . ( do i make you proud , master ? are you satisfied with our partnership ? ) ❛ —— y - you do ? ❜ he tries not to STUMBLE over himself , but the shock is palpable between them . speechless for a moment , he tries to COMPOSE HIMSELF , but even after several deep breaths , it’s an impossible thing . tackled on , almost like an afterthought , he adds shyly , ❛ you really mean that , master ? ❜
he still has a long way to go . he knows he’ll NEVER be as strong as anakin , as good a pilot , as skilled as he is , but the least he can do is TRY . try his best , do everything he can . prove himself to his master and to himself .

SURROUNDED ON ALL SIDES , and isn’t that just perfect ? back to back , what might feel like an IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION doesn’t even faze him . he’s come to trust prompto in battle , the other man’s presence a constant reassurance . these are not impossible odds , not by a long shot .
❛ you’re right . this is way too easy——— needs more explosions . ❜ the light tease of his voice remains , even as muscles tense in anticipation . when the first daemon attacks , he strikes out hard and fast , the humming light of his weapon CONNECTING against the enemy’s side . ❛ maybe a killer soundtrack . ❜
