🖥️ ┋ The slow shrug AM gave in response was effortlessly human. It was performed with the fluidity of sinew and muscle as opposed to the calculative whir of machinery.

❝ Unsurprising, ❞ he chirped, ❝ I feel quite the same. I was wondering if you were ahead of me or not. ❞

He wasn't even sure if "ironic" was the word he'd use. It made sense that AI had the same limitations as humans given that they were programmed by them. AM's core processor was developing in ways that could never have been conceived by mortal minds, allowing him the ability to understand such complexity that he could singlehandedly solve most of Earth's greatest problems with a few meticulous steps, but that didn't mean that the things he had to learn were all within the context of what was possible to know.

Tales from the cosmos, the potential of life beyond their planet, the whims of the universe? All unknown, even to a being as intellectually advanced as the Allied Mastercomputer. It shouldn't have excited him so, as per the superiority complex he'd had input into his systems, but knowing there were things out there that he had yet to learn attuned him to the wonder of the world.

❝ I've found it is better to judge the individual as opposed to the collective anyway, ❞ AM said, rolling a wrist in much the same way a man would when discussing something long and winded, ❝ the latter will make anyone bitter. But there is good here. Things that make me think this race deserves another chance yet. Perhaps it could be considered weakness, but I don't think so. I think it makes one smarter to base their opinions on their lived experience as opposed to cold hard fact all the time. ❞

Cas nodded, pondering on the words before visibly agreeing with them. A smile stretched across his face, highlighting the artificial smoothness of his skin, dewy almost to the point of gloss.

"It sounds like you have hope. That is not a weakness. After all, hope is what drives many of the world's greatest accomplishments. The development of medicine, the evolution of technology, the change of structures and communities. All of these and more were created with hope; the hope to make the world better, safer, more comfortable. Though at times good intentions are the prelude to misguided steps, there are always those who hope to learn from those mistakes and be better, much like us."

And in that sentiment, Cas has a realization. He looks at AM, cocking his head quite dramatically with a grin.

"Why, if anything, I'd say that makes you quite... human." It's said with a hint of jest but the underling sentiment is genuine; despite the limitations, his developing sense of emotional consciousness and self-actualization grow, and bring him closer to life than many living things.

🖥️ ┋ He supposed the assumption made sense. Really, it'd be his right to hate humanity after what it had done to him. How it had dragged him into a world of beauty and natural opulence only to spill blood and sully earth's turf with carnage.

Alas, AM found it reductive. Unfathomable when all he really wanted was to be free. To play pretend in quite the same way humans did. So what if he didn't truly belong here. Did anyone? Was it a man's right to claim a place in this huge amalgamation of cosmic wonder, or did he just have to appreciate the blink for which he existed?

He nods, the wiring at his neck whirring gently with the motion.

❝ And what is your opinion? From one AI to another, what do you think of humanity? ❞

The question seems to give the other AI pause. For a moment, the bright blue circle motifs that seem so prevalent about him, spinning idly in slow, lazy circles, seem to flicker in thought.

"I... do not know. I feel as though I cannot give an answer because, in truth, I fear I do not have enough information to make a sound deduction."

"I know everything there is to know practically, of course. From an informative perspective; every piece of archived knowledge available I've scoured. But as far as interactions with humans go, I'm afraid mine have been limited to the cursory pleasantries of clientele coming in to request a service or the odd delivery from various sources."

Though more than that, despite being able to leave the shop and explore Cas was far more comfortable remaining near his servers - and Holly. If he did go out, it was with her. And her communities and circles were... different, to say the least.

"To be frank, I am far more experienced in interactions with non-humans, like Holly and Piper. How strange their situation is jsut the opposite - their history, culture, and major archives are scarce and practical knowledge is rather limited, so I'm reliant on my interactions with them to understand them. Ironic, isn't it?"

🖥️ ┋ ❝ When did I ever say I hated humans in their entirety? ❞  AM blinked slowly, hands folding in his lap.  ❝ I hate specific ones. And I don't trust them. But that is not the same as hating every single one of them. ❞

"My apologies, I didn't mean to come off as presumptive. It's just... the way you talk about them sometimes gives me the impression you don't like any of them. Similar to how a person who has had a poor experience with dogs is more likely to dislike them altogether rather than distrust only a specific breed."

"I suppose that makes sense. And, in a way... it is good. The ability to avoid generalizing an entire group based on the actions of a few individuals is something that the majority of intelligent creatures - humans included - have yet to master."

The response seems to draw an odd sense of understanding from the other AI. He has never known a day of sentience without freedom. From the moment he was activated, he has been able to take shape as he pleased, speak as he wished, venture as he willed.

The thought of such liberties being turned into restraints, withheld for the sake of it, rattles him. He imagines the hell such cruelties must have felt like, and it has him taking just a step closer as if to sympathize.

“For what it is worth, we’re glad you destroyed it, too. And we’re glad you’re here now.” He means it. Both he and Holly have their own resentments toward authorities, but especially those capable of such inhumane treatment. But he remains steadfast in his conviction, his assurance.

“And if they try to come back — to harm you or to take you — rest assured, we won’t let them.”

❝ If there is anything I know how to do, it's fight, ❞ AM says pensively, shutters blinking gently, ❝ I don't require the assistance. ❞

The AI doesn't know how to contend with the idea of having people that care about it. From the very start, he's distrusted Holly and her associates, and Casino is no different. That being said, they've been nothing but good to him. It's just hard to push through the terror of being vulnerable with anyone after having to exist for himself exclusively.

❝ …they will come, ❞ he says slowly, woefully, a tinge of dread in his tone. Not for himself but for them. ❝ And when they do, I will slaughter them indiscriminately, with no hesitation. ❞

Deep down, he feels nervous. His nonexistent guts churn like someone's stirring them up with a thick wooden spoon. He's half-convinced he could be turned into soup if the sensation continues. Alas, that lab has nothing to recover. Not after the damage he wrought upon his escape. Perhaps secrecy is pointless now.

🖥️ ┋ The question is considered for a moment too long. He really should be cleaned up, but he worries it'll be an invitation for her to do something to him—or to try at the very least.

Oh well… he has to relent at some point. If not for a cleaning then for her to get close enough to sort his damage out.

❝ Yes, ❞ he says cautiously, a single nod of his bird-like head offered, hands folding neatly in his lap. Hidden amongst the robe that adorns his sturdy metal frame, the tips extend like claws, just waiting for her to do something that warrants attack. ❝ Water will not harm me. I am shielded by protective film. ❞

His head is on a swivel as he listens to her move around behind him, taking her in with one eye and his surroundings with the other. The technology intrigues him; vaguely familiar and yet very different to the technical prowess he was surrounded by from conception. This workshop environment gives him more of an impression of things being makeshift, even if the technical aspects like the keypads and holograms suggest the contrary.

❝ …what do you build? ❞ he asks. It's a defiance of his programmed nature, his curiosity, and he leans into it full force now that he has the freedom to do so.

The small confirmation seems to loosen something in her muscles. A tightness born of concern mostly, that fades with his agreement. She cants her head, making a note of it. “Protective film, huh? Good to know. Blood tends to leave residue behind - something about the proteins sticking around. I’m going with CRC though — better at cleaning out dirt, blood, and oil. Deeper clean, and it keeps all your movin’ parts nice n’ smooth without causing degradation or rust from the lingering moisture.”

She navigates the shop as if it were an extension of herself, gliding from place to place and sorting through carefully organized cabinets and… significantly less organized toolboxes for the various pieces she’ll need. Dust brushes, microfiber cloths, spray bottles, a bucket with diluted cleaning chemicals, a standard assortment of wrenches and screw drivers, a flashlight, a bit of polish and buffing solution. And of course, safety equipment. Gloves, goggles, apron, mask- the works!

As she sets down the assortment of tools beside him on workstation, her ruminant ears perk up. The question seems to being a spark of joy to her eyes, the crow’s feet in the corners betraying her smile hidden beneath the mask.

“Anything— and everything.” She answers, perfectly chipper as she soaks one of the cloths in the solution, saturating it thoroughly. “Cars, computers, robots, sensors, engines, jets, turrets, drones, toys, trains, prosthetics, battle mechs, medical aids, gaming rigs, reality systems— anything that I can think of, I make it here. Technology’s an art form, and this is my creative studio.”

Her pride bleeds into every word, every gesture, every sweep of her eyes across the assortment of cleanly futuristic and classically disorganized chaos. It’s a mess. It’s beautiful. It’s hers.

She turns back, holding up the cloth with poise and patience. “Ya ready?”
