// drafting this the day i watched the last act so i can talk abt it while it’s fresh i my mind. Spoilers for the The Last Act below bc i am insane and emotional about it ❤️
// casually sidestepping the inevitable fallout over the ending, i honestly thought that it was... perfect. I know some people are going to dismiss it as "what's the point? they weren't even real people!" and... i disagree. the real point is exactly the opposite: they were people. people who we now know were all going through hardships and probably at their respective rock bottoms either physically, mentally, or both. and more than likely, they saw an ad from C&A wanting testers for their neural mapping headset-- a paid clinical trial of sorts. maybe they did it bc they felt the cash would give them a little bit of wiggle room. maybe it was part of a larger therapy or support group thing. but either way they did it, and their consciousnesses were successfully uploaded into a program to see how adaptable their AI was.
// those characters were real people. they were snapshots of those people at the worst points in their lives - juxtaposed with an AI that was programmed to try and adapt to people who were enthusiastic participants. not... these guys. but by the end, we also see that beyond that snapshot, each of them were doing better. they found the strength and the courage to step out of their comfort zones and do things for themselves that made them happy. it got better for all of them. and i think that's the real central message of the series overall.
// it gets better. someway, somehow. things will get better.
// and knowing that fact gave them all a sense of closure and acceptance. they came to understand that they were living in the worst moments of their lives, not knowing if things would ever change or if they would get better. but they did. and that reassurance was what they really needed. i think that's something we all need. life sucks sometimes and we're, unfortunately, programmed to linger a lot longer on our worst days than our best ones. but knowing that it's temporary and that things will eventually get better brings us a lot of comfort and relief. and the hard times are a little less so when you're in good company
// some other rapid-fire things i wanna say while it's still fresh in my mind:
im gonna be honest - i dont really blame caine for snapping bc if you think about it, he was put in an impossible situation. they all were. Circling back to what I mentioned earlier: Caine was fed information regarding fun activities and hobbies with the intention that he'd be able to generate specially-tailored games for enthusiastic, willing participants. That was his function. The problem was... he didn't get willing and enthusiastic participants. he got the snapshots of people going through hardship. people whose basic emotional or physical needs weren't being met; never mind wanting to play games or go on adventures. he tried to make do the best he could bc... again, his function is to entertain and make sure people are having fun and enjoying themselves. and he did a great job all things considered! but at the end of the day, caine's directive and the crew's priorities were inherently incompatible. it was doomed to fail from the start.
i know a lot of people hate jax as a character and i can understand why. he's a jackass. he's mean, violent, cruel, sarcastic, and egotistical - but we've always known that that's a front. from the very beginning, we understood that his being an asshole was his way of coping/defending himself. we were only wrong about the why. it wasn't a form of denial for the fact he thought he'd be trapped in the circus forever. it was because at that point, the circus was the best - and likely only place - he felt that he had. and the ingrained conditioning of being neglected or outwardly rejected and abused by his family. as far his frame of reference goes, being a jackass is... all jax knows how to do bc that's all he ever learned from his parents. and he doesnt think he can handle that kind of devastation again. after all, you cant get hurt if you never let anyone close enough to hurt you. not to mention - he was homeless at the time of the brain scan. and that is a brutal reality that will change anyone exposed to it. the nicest people in the world are devastated by homelessness - and that's assuming they don't fall into bad influences like drugs, pimping, or alcoholism. homelessness forces you to revert back into your most primal self where your only goal is survival. adapt or die. and the odds are stacked entirely against you. i'm not in any way excusing jax's beahvior or saying that the finale redeemed jax as a whole. i also dont expect ANYONE other than maybe pomni or ragatha to even consider forgiving him. he was still absolutely awful as a person and did nothing to apologize or make amends for his actions. but he didn't stay that way. he managed to realize it wasn't helping and changed, and it got better. he did the work to get better and it did. and i think that's the most important takeaway from his arc. that who we are during hardship does not and should not define us. we are more than our cirumstances. it is what we do and how we respond to things that defines our character. to quote anya from mouthwashing: "i have to believe our worst moments don't make us monsters."
google fans going crazy and honestly, good for them. we love to see it <3
the only real "loose end" i think that never really went addressed was caine bringing back "scratch." at least, i think it was scratch. i have to assume it was either to determine if he could bring back the abstracted individuals, or for scratch to do so since he seems like he'd be the best at deciphering their corruption with his "abstract thinking."
i seriously doubt it'd happen since goose said she was burned out with the series and. tbh. the fandom is not doing any favors in convincing her to come back. but it would be nice to see a lil spinoff or minisode featuring a resolution for pomni and gummigoo
likewise. i would LOVE to see something similar for kinger and his abstracted wife. bc if pomni could get through to jax, i am entirely convinced that kinger could abolutely get through to queenie. and the concept of love (platonic, romantic, or otherwise) being what helps the abstracted individuals come back from the edge is, to me, the only possible thing that could've been missing from the finale. what can i say? im a sucker for the "love conquers all" trope, in all of its forms
also likewise, i imagine ribbit would be the only one that could bring jax back - besides maybe pomni. but given how it was set up, i honestly think ribbit would be a better fit bc jax was more honest with them than literally anyone. even pomni - up until the end at least

also probably not plausible but thinking about how the release of abel might make them an easter egg in other glitch series - especially gameoverse. based on the end dialogue, it's clear that abel was the more vindictive and jaded of the two programs. the more AM from I have No Mouth and I Must Scream of the two; and the one with a bigger ego and greater need for control. but, they were also the more efficient ai performatively. efficient, and with a sadistic/destructive streak. idk but i feel like that'd make a good tie in for the whole premise in gameoverse. again, highly unlikely. but im already this deep.
also did anyone else notice that when Abel left we stopped seeing bubble. I’m takin that as I was right in a sense-
// getting ready to go see the finale in theaters! Dw, I won’t be posting any spoilers. But yall will see me post a single gif reaction with no context ❤️
// okay im home now and ive stopped crying— no spoilers but i just
// I HAVE to commend Gooseworx and Glitch as a whole. While we’ve seen their animation skills improve more and more with each episode, the amount of effort and dedication they put into the last act blows it all out of the water. It is incredible to me that an independent animation studio that got its start posting its content for free on YouTube and likely started with an incredibly limited budget that they were padding out with pure passion, has managed to create such an impactful series in a way that famed actors and producers only dream of accomplishing. The Last Act was INCREDIBLY well-polished; visually stunning in a way that I’d say is the animation equivalent to Project Hail Mary’s gorgeous practical effects, and a well-thought out narrative tie-up that perfectly encapsulates the concept of Chekov’s Gun and conveys all of its elements in a way that focuses on relatable emotional expression more than exposition. Not to mention the performances of the voice actors was absolutely beautiful and perfect for the tones of their various scenes. And they managed all of that in the face of numerous setbacks.
// I know that, no matter what, the final ep is going to be divisive. As has literally everything else in the series. But despite individual opinions on certain aspects of the show or the characters and their relationships, I think we can all agree that Glitch has really outdone themselves purely in terms of artistic and written talent. And much like with Iron Lung, they’ve managed to do something incredible by breaking into a major industry that thrives on close-knit nepotism, money, and connection through sheer passion — and with a type of film genre that the industry constantly tries to rug sweep! And honestly, I think that’s the biggest accomplishment that they should all be very proud of. Their individual talents deserve credit, as does the fact that they are undoubtedly contributing to a historical shift in the entertainment industry that will help level the playing field between corporate monopolies and independent artists/studios.

// one thing that i really hope gameoverse shows at some point is how games with a "non-standard" type of progression fit into the greater lore. Like - we can assume that games like Cyberpunk or Undertale would follow the same rules as Kit or Gobbles' worlds because, even though there are multiple endings, they are still endings. They're still definitive Game Overs.
// But what about games that don't have a definitive end point? You could argue that Pokemon, for example, has a sort of end goal with beating gym leaders, stopping the enemy team, and beating the champion - but a lot of the games don't just stop there. You can continue to play even after the mainline quest is complete. The same logic applies to things like Skyrim or Fallout.
// And beyond that, there are games where there just straight up is no mainline quest. Not definitively anyway. Games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing nudge you to complete certain tasks, sure - but ultimately, the games don't have a main storyline or plot to follow, no solid progression to drive you towards, and mostly exist for you to set your own goals.
// And what about simulation games? Tomodachi? The Sims? Those are completely freeform, with even less than your own personal goals and whims. The characters just sorta... do whatever they want and you can sometimes guide their actions.
// Idk maybe this is just my AuDHD brain looking for rules and logic where there is none, but I'm mostly curious to see if and how the series addresses the diversity of different game types and how their respective game mechanics in terms of progression fit in with the larger overall lore.
