A Duck in the Rain

Inspired by: Seeing a duck in the rain, but being too afraid of being judged

I once met a duck, during a downpour in may, And for once I was struck, By its stillness that day.

I looked at my umbrella, Pure black, no grey, And put it over the fella, Totally prepared to stay.

The bird looked up, Locked eyes we did, Then sat like a tiny pup, Snuggled like a perfect fit.

Time seemed to slow, Or maybe it was just me, Noticing the flow, Of the puddle underneath.

Leaves all float, Sailing in ditches, Children making boats, Slipping and getting stitches.

The wind blew bags, All over my head, Rain pounding like stags, Creating smoke as they fade.

Light from a dam, Streaming through clouds, Water became gems, Confident and proud.

“Quack” went my friend, Or so I think we are, And for once I can pretend, That this happened so far.

I once saw a duck, during a downpour in may, And although I was struck, I did not go there that day.

Excuses of cowardice, And invisible stares, I looked back twice, And then went down the stairs.

What could have been, I would never really know, As the rain turns thin, Backwards I hope to go.

Out of all the things in comics this year, I think Tim Drake’s last stand was my favorite moment. James T. Tynion brought back the Tim Drake I remembered before Scott Lobdell got his hands on him.
