Do you ever have a project that ran too long, but realized and wished that you changed a certain details? I certainly have that much of a regret sometimes. (I can't change too much of the databases or more)
A big lament I have is with the Moon Kingdom quintet designs in the game.
The lunarians depicted in myth are always associated with immortality and medicine. (again taoism moment), the moon rabbits pounds medicines. The Moon Goddess (Chang'e) became immortal after ingesting a pill, Tu'er Yue came from the moon to help people in need during a plague in Beijing. Tu'er Shen had a similar mythology where he helped a man save his male lover during a plague (but it was scrubbed from the chinese wiki???).
Sometimes I think I could've depicted as an alchemist/scientist. Like a weird alien who lives on the moon, making new cutting edge medicine (Elixir of immortality, and plague vaccines), studying on this weird specimen called "Earth" and "humans" (like how we observe the moon via telescope, on the reverse, they're observing us like bacteria on microscopes) , and they live in a hi-tech utopia that mankind on earth could've dreamed of.
Doesn't help that folklore like Kaguyahime had a sci-fi bend to it.
Tu'er Yue could've a nurse-like image. Tu'er Shen and Yue Lao could've stayed the same I guess.
Some alchemist of that time seemingly wore white (like modern labcoat), but some seemed to wear colorful(?). Hu Tianbao (T.S) and Yue Lao are supposed to be a high ranking lab assistant to the Moon Goddess in a sense, kind of an Admin role if they're pokeymans villains.
"Wait, Yue Lao is a god of love, why is he scientist?" Think of it like this. He's associated with "destined" soulmate. But what if it was actually a selective breeding program under the guise of "red string of fate"? If you look it that way, it feels like a sinister mad scientist-type plot.
The Moon Kingdom would've contrasted with the Inari, whose approach to commerce, agriculture and technology (swordsmithing, brewery) are more down to earth.
The Moon Kingdom quintet might looked sinister, but personally I want em' to be a "well meaning" despite all of that. They view things from pure science perspective, for better or worse.
Aside from Moon Goddess and the Moon Rabbit, Tu'er Shen, Tu'er Yue and Yue Lao sadly never made it to the playable database due to limits/way too late in the dev (Meaning they're just NPCs for now), maybe I could fiddle with their designs a wee bit.
The game is still unfinished and the one in this link are super old build (meaning some stuff could change drastically in the final product)

Idk, usually May was the common choice for the kid in domestic(feral) family hardship AU, but since RSE admins are completely blank slates and a separate entities from their ORAS/SPE selves, I made the RSE Magma admins their kids. A twin menace even. The Aqua admins are their legal godparents/free wheeling aunt/uncles
I think the two admin's depiction in anime/SPE looking like Archie doesn't help... Just kidding
Since RSE Arch and Max had completely opposite personalities from their remake, I always thought their admins would be the same case.
The Magma admins are at their early twenties. Their conception is a mystery. For saner version, they're adopted somewhere during magmaqua's recruiting campaign, like they're supposed to be the "future generation" of Magmalings, wunderkind, genius kids cult program. (A crack version is that they're born from Maxie's mpreg shenanigans. You see, they were conducting tests on making cis AMAB pregnant, mostly to address multitude sensitive issues about gender and reproduction etc. They studied tons of Ditto and genderless 'mon breeding. Maxie being Maxie, would he pass this kind of testing??? Ofc Archie being his boyfriend at that time agrees to be a sperm donor, and from there, was born two healthy twins (one shiny))
Arch and Max doesn't want their magmaling kids to be raised conventional normie hetslop ways, they really encourage em' to be affectionate and emotional even as a man (especially when pokeymans are set in the nineties-early 2000s sci fi AU)

RSE Arch :
Unlike his remake, he had a more darker personality hiding under his amicable personae, he's pretty good with people and rather suave. He's much more laid back but when stuck in danger, his real side emerges. (Just like how he threatens protag when they confront him in the seafloor cave, or coldly scolding his subordinates in the museum)
The sane guy(?) in the relationship. The Tsukkomi.
Secretly cares about Max, but near the end, thought Max has abandoned him and so pursues his own goals. But they reunited again at the end of Emerald.
Likes pokeymons, and generally prefer their companionship over humans, sometimes.
Only Max knows his real personality, but sometimes he kind of cracks and his childhood friends (turned aqua admins) notices it.
Overall a cross between his remake and SPE version.
Knowing the world of pokeymans, he probably met Max as a rival somewhere in his pokeymans trainer journey. He just had the "jaded pokemon protagonist growing up bitter" vibe which was sadly underutilized :/
Drowns the world for pokeymans, but had a hidden agenda. If he drowned the entire civilization, maybe Max would stop trying to focus on helping shitty mankind who dgaf about him, and looked to him only. Kind of yandere streak somewhere. Like he wanted to return to the time where he eloped with Max as a trainer. Nothing but them, pokeymans, secluded in nature. He's a natural doomer.
What makes him terrifying is that he could switch personalities from a silly boisterous pokemon-loving pirate guy or a cringe ass simp bum calling Maxie a "babygirl" unironically, to a crime boss with misanthropic worldviews.
Two faced, in general.
His family is a nouveau rich who runs a recently successful fishery business in slateport/pacifidlog/mossdeep. While financially enables Archie, they neglected him emotionally, breeding resentment (and fuels his hatred for humans).
Archie probably kissed Maxie in front of them just to spite them, then ran away with him pre-split.
RSE Max :
Pure, pure unadulterated insanity. Guy will do everything if it means SCIENCE!!!, also pure unhinged acid aura. Maybe this pureness is what draws Archie in.
While his remake are more restrained at first (ORAS maxie is just the same kind of unhinged in the end), RSE Maxie just yaps forever. This guy have zero filters and absolute zero fucks.
That unironically makes him less two faced compared to Archie.
Doesn't have friends at school, everyone fears him as the "scary nerd who will hack your pokemon PC and steal your datas", there's some incident of bullies trying to shove him in the locker, got their ass shoved instead.
Is probably affiliated with team rocket from his family. Dad's probably the guy in the beta leaks files (Urushida was also his former surname). Poor little Max was sort of "groomed" to be his henchman. The evil dad was involved with shittons of healthcare scandals and his a rocket spy working in devon. Though one day, his dad mysteriously passed away, nobody knew what happened.
Family came from Kanto (since he had houndoom in some adaptation), but he's born in Hoenn
He's the classic archetypal rival in old pokemon (Akin to Silver/Blue)
The Boke in Manzai routine.
Related to the team rocket hc above, he and his mom was ostracized by his fellow people, so he wanted to make up for his rocket past and benefit mankind. HOWEVER, his rocket past made him skeptical if he could ever love a pokeymans, and so locked his feelings for them and act like he's just using them. (note : he was spoiling his camerupt, crobat and mightyena with ultra smooth pokeblocks)
He was once a rival trainer deployed against trainers who dare intrude on team rocket's operation, so he fought against Archie a lot. But then they ended up caring for each other.
Archie loves pokemon, but outside of feeding them and taking care of them normally, he doesn't know how to raise them optimally (doesn't know about EV, daycares, berries, etc). Max fills this out for him. "You love pokemon, but knows nothing about raising them?!!! *sigh*, I'll explain" - Max, probably.

They probably ran an errand for Mauville city corporation somewhere in their youth, thinking that they're heroes, like how the protags in RSE gets errands from devon , but after realizing that they were used. It fueled the creation of their teams.
You wonder if team rocket hoenn branch was banished due to their efforts in their youth as well.
They scream pokemon MC and rival dynamic so much, ok? I love this AU.
Archie might have Shelly as his childhood friend flag, but Archie went on a pokeymans journey with Maxie so much that their behavior starts to rub on each other. Shelly even notes on this.

Early-mid twenties, introverted and cool, sometimes kind of eccentric. People notes he resembles Archie the most.
Used to work at devon as a scientist, but then rejoins his dad when the teams are made. He eventually sided with Magma
If RSE had a delta episode, he would've replaced ORAS Courtney's position, being more loyal to his dad (Max) and was heavily angry at his other dad (Arch) for betraying the family.
He was close to Archie as a kid, which fueled his resentment even more when both guys breaks up.
Appearance and personality leans towards anime.
Runs a standard camerupt team but had houndoom on the side.

Early mid twenties. In an opposite to her ORAS counterpart, she's flirty, chatty, extroverted, vain and a bit sadistic.
A software engineer who does hacking and intelligences on her side job. Her side hobbies are joining pokemon contests with her ninetales and berry gardening.
She seems to be more neutral, not siding with Magma or betraying them for Aqua, but was depressed with his dads splitting up. (The reason why she's not in Emerald aside from cameo, perhaps. Lol)
Probably had bad companies in some seedy hacker forums on the 'net.
Appearance and personality leans towards the manga.

RSE Shelly and Matt :
Matt was the opposite of his remake incarnation, pudgy looking, blonde-ginger hair etc. While lacking obsession towards Archie (like in ORAS), he's the sane guy in his friend circle, willing to call him (or even punch him) out for his bad choices and is surprisingly amicable towards the magma grunts... sometimes.
Maybe he's the one that asked Maxie's help during the end of Emerald? idk how tf Maxie and co. could enter the seafloor cavern without any submarine or dive TM (even Shelly asked how tf player could enter the cave without a submersible). When you think of it, the last guy who guarded their HQ was Matt .....
Shelly likes ultra tough looking pokeymans and secretly had a battle frontier membership. She also manages the team in Arch's stead, probably.
Shelly's backstory was kind of the same. Idk why I just can't erase her childhood backstory with Archie. Maybe if RSE had delta episode, she would've replace remake Matt's role.
There's probably some crazy ass one sided love triangle between Max, Archie and Shelly in their youths, like Shelly -> Archie -> Maxie, but they grew off this conflict. Shelly thinks it's silly and probably said to Max "oh you, Archie doesn't belong to me, he can freely love whoever he wants~" at the end.
RSE Matt had a specific fetish toward young chubby men, jk
Sadly I don't have much thoughts about the aqua admins :(
AU where the villains of Hoenn does boring day jobs to cover their criminal activities and had a happy boring family life, but their students and customer happens to be the dashing protagonists
Archie will reply "naval tradition is drinking grog, ship skitties, and line crossing ceremonies" but Maxie will answer "rum lash and buggery"
