I visited the exhibition „In the Name of the People?!“ on Tuesday. The exhibition shows the history of the (fortunately) abolished § 175 of the Penal Code, which penalized sexual relationships between people of the same sex.
The exhibition can be seen until the 9th of August in two different places: part 1 can be seen in the Düsseldorf Memorial Site and part 2 can be seen in Town Hall. Please check the website of the city of Düsseldorf for opening hours: https://www.duesseldorf.de/mahn-und-gedenkstaette/veranstaltungen/3006-bis-09082020-im-namen-des-volkes-175-im-wandel-der-zeit.html
Since this exhibition is (unfortunately) in German only, I will publish an information video on this topic on this website.
If you see huge boards and posters of the different political parties these days, do not wonder. It's communal election time in NRW! I wonder what's with politicians and their faux-pas these days. Last week, there was some kind of trouble for the current Mayor Mr. Geisel, because of a video with a so-called „gangster rapper“ who reminded young people to keep the rules regarding the Corona Virus. The trouble was that songs and lyrics of this rapper are highly offensive and many protested against this video message. In the end, Mr. Geisel deleted the video from the official Düsseldorf Website.
And now this campaign of Mrs. Strack-Zimmermann (candidate of the Liberal Party)
This campaign clearly aims against Mr. Geisel, because the current Mayor is not a born Düsseldorfian but from Southwest Germany (Swabia). However, I find a little disturbing, that the Liberal Party emphazises that only a „true“ Düsseldorfian can be Mayor, when they are so many people inside town hall, who are not born here and still love this city and work their butts off to make this city a lovable and liveable place for all. Not being born in Düsseldorf applies to most of the people living here, if I was to take a shot, I'd say that half of the population weren't born here. Which isn't a problem itself, if you like Düsseldorf, it doesn't matter if you moved here one day, one month, one year or even ten years ago. Who cares?! That might not be the original intention of this campaign, however I think that the slogan is very ill-fitted, regarding multi-cultured Düsseldorf and the amount of expatriates living here.
Meanwhile, there's nothing new at the Düsseldorf Corona Front, the 7-Day-Indicator is currently at 11, and only if it passes 30, there will be counter-measures like a curfew etc
At the same time, in Hamburg, a ban on alcohol was passed, because of party people inside Hamburg's Amusement District.
The Bundesliga will continue on the 19th of September, the League and the clubs are still thinking about regulations so that people can see the games inside the stadion and do not have to rely on the games being broadcasted on tv. The DFL (German Football League) proposed the following: no guest fans, a ban on alcohol and at home games there are only a certain amount of people allowed, with no standing room. Now it's up to the clubs if they agree to these conditions, but I can imagine the answers before they are made public ;)
And last but not least, here's the latest video about our lovely neighbors to the West: an information video about the Netherlands. If you have any questions, you know how to contact me ;) Stay healthy and safe and until next time!
