I imagine this was the breaking point where he decided defying his dad might be worth it. He did it all his dad's way and married the woman he wanted him to marry, and Terry still isn't satisfied. The next episode is when they start showing him pining, which I don't think is a coincidence.

This scene really gets me, and I'm sure anyone else who has been in a relationship they are hiding from their family can relate. It takes a lot of guts and this strange twisting feeling in your stomach to give even a passing mention of the person you are concealing. Imagine how much Mickey must miss Ian that he would risk asking about him at all in front of his violently homophobic father, who knows who Ian is. He's trying so hard to be nonchalant here, but he asks way too quickly if she's heard from him for it to be completely casual.
