Camille Diggory: Poppy’s unsure of her opinion of the young maiden, having only met her once; close friends with Elphias Doge through Albus Dumbledore, she had no idea what to expect of his predecessor after his abrupt death. Still reeling with the grief, the woman approached her for a meeting one gloomy afternoon, and Poppy had snapped when Camille insinuated there was a need for her healing talents at St. Mungo’s, and that Elphias would’ve wanted her to help those unjustly affected by the curse. It was a right, true, and fair assumption, but it ruffled Poppy’s feathers in all the wrong ways - what did this little girl know about war, or Elphias, or her? Poppy had made promises to the people she held closest to her, to keep her bleeding heart at bay and ignore another shadow war in lieu of her own well-being this time around - to save whatever bits of her were still left after sacrificing everything to help during the Muggle Great War. The conversation with Camille had gone so poorly, it had soured Poppy’s intentions after the closing of Hogwarts. She was unable to face the woman to grovel for a job after being so unkind, and so, Poppy decided it was best to mitigate her talents to those who actually needed it - the children displaced by those older than them who insisted on making the world more difficult to live in everyday.
Molly Weasley: Poppy knew Molly back when she was a young Prewett. The young woman was fiery from the day they met, yet Poppy could see endless kindness and caring behind the temperament sent in the direction of her brothers. Molly spent more and more time in the hospital wing at Poppy’s side as she grew older as the Matron’s shadow, and the two formed a close bond while she helped Poppy tend to patients. Though it’s been years since Molly’s graduation, the two remain close friends, and with the growing tensions in the world Poppy can’t help but worry for Molly, Arthur, and their children. If anything were to happen to the Weasleys, she’s not sure what she would do... They’ve come to represent the good still left in the world, and her worry for those she holds dear has begun to feed into the strife-filled moral question that haunts Poppy daily: should she do more? Or has she given enough of herself to the endless bloodshed she’s seen? Maybe it’s the gaggle of redheaded babies that inspired Poppy to open a daycare in the heart of Hogsmeade after the closing of Hogwarts; she can’t sacrifice her well-being to the violence of others like she had in her youth, but protecting other’s little ones from the tragedies of war feels like the next best thing.
Minerva McGonagall: There’s a tension between Minerva & Poppy that had never been present over their tenure at Hogwarts. Although at first Poppy was quick to side with her long-time partner, Madam Hooch, over the tenacious Transfiguration professor during any moment of conflict, this behavior died out as her friendship with Minerva deepened. Eventually, Poppy was thrust into the role of peacekeeper between the two women, having a deep care for them both and an understanding that they only butted heads because they were similar in more ways than they were different. However, a fissure of deep mistrust has begun to crack beneath Poppy’s amicable surface since the closing of the school; where she’d once had a friend, she now has a competitor as Rolanda babbles on and on over the other woman, calling an unforeseen insecurity to the forefront - had there been something between the two that Poppy never noticed, too entrenched in her own infatuation? And would Minerva steal the only constant in Poppy’s life since she was a girl, regardless of their friendship?
