One thing Iโve noticed is how upset people have gotten at me in the past for having standards. I donโt think theyโre outrageousโ be a kind person, donโt be a bigot, donโt be selfish, care about the people around you, consider the consequences of your actions on yourself and on others.
And yet, every now and again, someone pops into my life and gets irrationally offended that I wonโt accept just any kind of behavior. That I have limits. Literally, their problem is simply that I find some things they do unacceptable. And all of a sudden, the narrative is that Iโm irrational, Iโm stuck-up, I think Iโm too good for anybody, and I refuse to accept people the way they are.
And itโs like. I do not owe you unconditional love. Nobody owes you unconditional love. In fact, unconditional love and acceptance, when it comes to the way someone behaves, are a golden opportunity for abusive people to exploit (which isnโt the fault of victims), and a golden opportunity for those who love unconditionally to do themselves a disservice. Anecdotally, those who have required unconditional love from me despite their behavior were in some of the least healthy relationships I have ever seen. Iโm talking constant tears and complaints about relationships they just could not let go of. They expected me to have no boundaries because they had no boundaries, regardless of how badly that turned out for them.
Please set conditions for your love. You do not need to put up with selfishness, you do not need to put up with bigotry, you do not need to put up with malice, and you can and should decide what kind of people you want in your life.
Please, in the name of self-preservation and your mental health and all the good you deserve, define what is unacceptable to you and stick to it. Donโt let anyone tell you youโre asking for too much. Youโre not asking for too much. Youโre just asking the wrong people.
hi sorry for ghosting you im being tormented by psychic horrors beyond your wildest comprehensions

gomez addams is the dream friend. id kill to have that dude in my corner. like if he found out my company closed cuz of covid heโd just give me 5k a month until โyou get back on your feet, old boyโ. Iโd have to sword fight him like twice a week but then Iโd just get better at sword fighting. literally what is the downside
also while iโm ranting about gender i always see debate about whether girls are rewarded for being tomboys or not and itโs like. actually girls are rewarded for mirroring whatever the situation demands of them. girls canโt be too prissy and refuse to play in the creek, but girls also canโt show up to girly events covered in mud. girls canโt have makeup art as a hobby or else theyโre superficial, but if they never wear makeup theyโre a slob and dumpy, etc. itโs not that girls are universally rewarded or punished for being tomboys, theyโre rewarded for bending over backwards to always be exactly right for any given situation and punished for breaking those boundaries. so yes a classically pretty girl who cleans up nice is rewarded when she can ALSO be a tomboy. but a girl who is a tomboy all the time is definitely punished for never being able to achieve that prerequisite feminine side. this debate is over now thanks
You can love sports but you still have to be pretty. You can wear makeup but you can't wear "too much" or look like you're trying too hard.
You can have stereotypically masculine interests but it's a 50/50 shot if people (guys, usually) will think you're not-like-other-girls and cool, or will just fucking hate you for no reason. If you only have feminine interests you're boring.
Why are we putting tomboys and girly girls against each other when the real "crime" is being a girl in any way?

i think university is about walking around campus with a tote bag (or backpack) and trying to look purposeful and busy. and whoever manages to look the most purposeful and busy wins
