The few times I have been around wealthy, not middle class but like ACTUALLY wealthy people, in my life has always been them reacting like this one Hillary Clinton image. Like you will be talking to these people for a minute, and if you have a "proper" etiquette it probably won't occur to them that you might be poor. But then they see/hear where you are from, what social class you belong to, your lifestyle, or what kind of job you have, and it instantly disgusts them. They could have been fine with you beforehand, but now that they know you're one of THOSE, their mind immediately goes into lockup, and that becomes the ultimate determining factor for who you are to them. I grew up not really knowing I was actually pretty fking poor (for American standards) and it never really occurred to me until I interacted with people who had stock options and knew what a credit score was. Especially now that I am on my own and old enough to understand how obscenely wealthy and privileged many people are, it kind of just wows me. Something so seemingly small really does matter to those who have lost the plot of being human. What a diseased way of looking at things. This is just one reason why America is the way it is.
