now, to begin with, I would like to say that the reason this was made was due to me and @duplichromatic 's growing disbelief in the popular knight candidates, due to a variety of reasons. A majority of knight theories lack a how and/or a why. As in, why would Papyrus do that, how could Dess do that, why would Rudy do that, how could Carol do that, etc, etc.
This is not meant to be an attack on these theories despite my distaste for them, but rather our alternative take which over time, has grown weirdly likely in our minds.
Firstly, we need to figure out WHAT the knight is before we discuss WHO the knight is, and my theory? they're not a Lightner, they're a titan. If you look at the knight for long enough, you seem to notice something, shapeshifting. As far as we know, the rules of Deltarune don't allow for shapeshifting, for Lightners at-least. Lightners maintain their body shape regardless of outfit.
But there is one being who's shape isn't exactly solid, The Titan. The Titan is seen doing a lot of things which albeit not shapeshifting, is not in any maintaining a consistent form. It absorbs SPAWN straight into itself, it forms and un-forms its face shield, it literally forms its shape from a dark fountain, and it even attacks from the foreground during the chase sequence, despite how it's fountain is in the background.
The knights similarity to the Titan don't just end there however. When you damage the Knight via Rude Buster, or otherwise defeat it, you notice its form flicker. The way it flickers resembles the Titan Spawn and Titan.
alongside this, the Titan and the Titan Spawn both have an attack motif seen extensively in the knight fight, red attacks. Nearly every single attack the Knight throws at you is red. and one of the main attacks in the spawn fight is a dark mass with a red outline that chases you.
So if we are to believe the Knight is a Titan, than who MADE that titan. I believe it's Kris who made the Knight.
when we look at their animations, there's plenty of similarities to Kris' (ignore the shitty image quality please)
and when we see into the Dark Worlds both make are... weirdly compatible, the knights Darkners exist as well as Kris' do, the knights dark fountain leaves Flower Kings dark world basically untouched, none are stone, nothings messed up geometrically, like Susie's second sanctuary. speaking of that second sanctuary, when you're in the third sanctuary and try to speak the Organikk to go back to the second sanctuary, it asks if you if you want to return to the other side of KRIS' mind, not the KNIGHTs mind, not SUSIEs, its KRIS' mind. and we already know via another Organikk that the Second Sanctuary is merely another side of the First Sanctuary, which we KNOW the knight made, and so we know that the Knights will IS Kris' will.
Furthermore, the Knight has similarities to someone else who reflects Kris, ERAM/Shadow Mantle Holder/I like the name ERAM because it fucks. at the end of ERAMs Fight, and at the final attack of the Knights fight, you see the same 4 color sequence. Red, Purple, Blue, Maroon.
And isn't it interesting how the knight is always referred to as wielding a KNIFE, not a sword. The Knight wields the black knife, it makes by blackened knife, its song is black knife. The only knife wielder we know is KRIS.
ALSO HOW ARE THERE THE EGG ROOMS. we can gleam from the changes seen in Kris' dark worlds that the Egg Rooms are very much PART of the dark world, they change with Kris' will as well... so how does the knight know about it, the only way would be if the knight had somehow remembered this forgotten man, and well... Kris is likely the only one who does.
So with all that said, when do we think Kris made The Knight, and HOW the knight makes dark fountains? I think The Knight was the demon Kris and Catti summoned, as mentioned in earlier chapters, and now in chapter 5, Catti and Kris tried summoning a demon, and that Catti left kris alone during the final parts of the process. Although never stated what type of occult they studied, we do see directly some evidence.
in Chapter 5, the Floradinns have the Flatter Act, which flattens the Floradinn. When Kris uses it, you see a Book, on the book?
It is a TITAN EYE, on the book, Kris and Catti summoned a Titan as part of occult practice, and the Titan was the Knight. Kris has been a rather out-casted member of their society, being the only human, and what more would summon want than to be a hero? to be The Hero? and so the knight helped Kris, they made a fountain in the shelter, what was meant to be something to show off how COOL Kris was became tragedy when lost where the forest would grow, the children followed the pointed tail. and so Dess got lost in the very same shelter meant to uplift Kris as a hero. This is the ROOT of Kris' guilt.

Edit: if you wanna know how the knight exists in the light world thats because dark fountains do and we know titans are dark fountains. And if you wanna know how they make dark fountains, them making one with summoned swords shows that you dont need contact nor physicality to make one, therefore kris could just imbue the knight with their will.
Also if titans were mindless why would they take turns, why would they not attack themselves, why do they heal and block attacks, why are they a "guardian". Ralsei has shown hostility towards people like flowery who remind them of theirself.
So ralsei could just... lie about the titan / spawn, since ralsei themself can also shapeshift as seen by their downed animation
