Crocus || Hiei & Kurama

As far as he was aware, a school carnival was supposed to be a fun event. The bright lights and loud ambiance, however, had never appealed much to Kurama as a child so he never made his mother take him to carnivals whenever they rolled into town. 

He’d been to a carnival only twice in his life, but somehow thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of the fact that this one was basically right outside of his dorm.

Still, it wasn’t enough to convince him to show up on his own so he texted the first person that came to mind. 

Carnivals didn’t seem to be Hiei’s thing, but, somehow, Kurama felt he would be able to convince the shorter, volatile man to join him.

[ txt ] :: So you refuse? Why? Are you frightened? I can hold your hand.

The red-head grinned as he typed out his response to the other’s fervent refusal to join him. He hadn’t known Hiei for too long, but found that sarcasm and taunts worked rather well if he ever needed to convince the criminology major to do something.

“That’s quite the heavy question.”

“I suppose it depends on your beliefs and what you’ve been taught to expect after your life has ended. Physically speaking, your body will decompose underground, or sit on someone’s mantle in the form of ashes. Then there are spiritual ideologies that mention an afterlife or heaven, hell, or purgatory, as well as those that teach that one is not allowed to bask in the glory of the afterlife unless you’ve lived a truly enlightened life. I, personally, am intrigued by the notion of resurrecting into another life.”

“As normal as we can be? My mother is doting and protective, but trusting. I was too young when my father passed away to remember him, but I assume it’s safe to say that he was a good husband to my mother.”

Hiei was surprised that the sun was starting to set. He didn’t think he’d last this long at the beach, but it seemed he had distracted himself to the point of not even caring thanks to the help of the red head. 

“I’m studying criminology, the only thing that caught my interest honestly.”

He hoped that he didn’t ask why it was his choice since it would reveal a little bit into his personal life and he didn’t want to talk about his small record.

His initial thought was to raise an eyebrow skeptically when the shorter male responded, but something about the notion of a delinquent-looking man studying criminology made some kind of ironic sense. The other’s stiff, closed off body language gave the impression that he wouldn’t divulge any more information on the subject or his reasoning for the choice, so Kurama didn’t press the matter any further.

“An interesting choice.” he admitted without saying anything else on the matter.

“I’m currently a Psychology major with a minor in plant science. Those were the only two fields that interested me, so perhaps you and I are not much different.”

That much was true. The red-head didn’t have a concrete idea of what he intended to do in his life, much less what he intended to do with a degree in Psychology. Counseling didn’t really appeal to him, but perhaps he could go on to continue research in the field. Oh well... He’d decide later. He still had time.

“I might end up changing my mind down the line. Who knows. I have time.”

He asked with as innocent and surprised an expression as he could muster while he stood at his door with Hiei standing just outside of it.

“I thought we were going to study for Psychology together... was this actually a... date?”

It took every ounce of effort not to laugh.
