I took Physics in school because I loved the poetry of it. All the life lessons it had to teach me: inertia, momentum, resistance, resonance. But here's one that only hit me this year. Particles do not move along the wave; they simply oscillate up and down about their individual equilibrium positions as the wave passes by. Can you imagine that a wave, tumbling, propagating, rolling, towards some fuzzy destination, is actually made up of many particles that have never moved from their original spots? That this mass of disturbance and change and movement can actually be so stagnant? I thrive when things are moving, changing, happening. All I have left to remember my first time to USS by is this scrappy home-printed map and the plan of attack that was birthed after an hour of researching staggered ride timings and roller coaster videos. ▫️ I love you but how can I not love you more when we're walking through the pre-ride maze at the mummy ride and your palms just grow more clammy the nearer we get. And after that you rate it "I hate it" out of 10 and that's okay because we're going to a water park next and fortunately, you love water parks more than you hate roller coasters.
